•
The Weekend To End Women’s Cancers is a 2-day, 60km walk to raise vital funds for the Harry Perkins
Institute of Medical Research, Western Australia’s first centre for Women’s Cancer Research.
•
The Perth Weekend is the largest walk for women’s cancers in WA having raised $2.2 million in 2014.
•
Funds raised through The Perth Weekend enable world-leading scientists at the Harry Perkins
Institute of Medical Research to acquire vital equipment needed for advancing breast and ovarian
cancer research programs in Western Australia.
•
Total funds raised and final participant numbers for this year’s event will be announced moments
before the Walk begins at the opening ceremonies in Perth on Saturday, March 28th.
•
1 in 3 Australian women will develop a form of cancer before the age of 85.
•
Walkers will be supported by hundreds of volunteers and crew members, providing meals, water and
snack stops, portable restrooms, safety on the course, comprehensive medical services and an
overnight campsite complete with tents, hot showers and entertainment.
•
Media will find interest in the humanizing stories of Walkers, many of which have been impacted by
cancer and are walking for personal, deeply moving reasons. Media will also have the opportunity to
interview executives, researchers and doctors from the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research
who can discuss how the funds are being put to immediate use supporting cancer research, treatment
and care at Harry Perkins Institute.
