SECTION 3 – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The prime function or key responsibilities of this job are to:
Responsible for the delivery of a safe standard of nursing care in accordance with the
Code of Practice of the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia and standards
set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. Pastoral care permeates the whole
College community through the spiritual, academic, physical, social and emotional
wellbeing of all our students is fostered. The role of the School Nurse is one of service to
the College community.
SECTION 4 – STATEMENT OF DUTIES
SUMMARY OF DUTIES IN DESCENDING ORDER OF IMPORTANCE
Clinical Duties
Responsible for the delivery of a safe standard of nursing care in accordance
with the Code of Practice of the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia
and standards set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council
Maintain a well-equipped, safe and functional Health Centre
Works independently to provide consultation, assessment, management and
follow-up of all injuries, illness, emotional and social issues
Ensure nursing services are provided in a manner that is culturally appropriate
Liaise with teachers, parents and health professionals as required
Provide nursing care and support to students with special needs and medical
conditions
Formulate and maintain individual ‘Action Plans’ for students with medical
needs
Provide advice for students, staff and parents on health related issues
Encourage students to accept responsibility for their own health management
Document daily medical notes for students and staff in SEQTA
Complete accident/incident forms when required
Responsible for the safe storage of medications
Maintain appropriate infection control procedures
Maintain current knowledge of Department of Health Communicable Disease

Compile Health Centre statistics for the Principal

Coordinate immunisation programmes for students
Coordinate annual flu vaccinations for staff
Coordinate First Aid courses for staff
Maintain all College First Aid Kits
Maintain Epipen supply on campus
Coordinate Asthma medications and training
Organise relief nursing when required
Manages the allocated budget for the Health Centre
Involved in health promotion

Catholic College Community.
SECTION 6 – COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Police Clearance and Working with Children certification
Attain and maintain Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School through the Catholic Education Office
Be fully supportive of the ethos of the Catholic Church
Commitment to the spiritual, emotional, social, emotional and health of all in the College Community
Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills
An ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
