The new station at Southland project involves constructing a new train station between Highett and Cheltenham stations on the Frankston line. Feedback is being sought from a number of stakeholders, including local residents and community members, to capture a wide range views and comments about the design of the new station. PROJECT DESIGN AND FEATURES Proposed station design The new station will be modern, safe and accessible for all members of the community. It has been designed as an unstaffed station and will include a freestanding automated toilet on platform two. With train services running on the Frankston line every ten minutes during the day, seven days a week, customers won’t have to wait long to travel to and from Southland. Station car parking will not be provided as part of the project. Platform 1 Platform 2 Opaque fencing will be installed along platform 1 to provide privacy screening for nearby residents. Station lighting will be pointed away from residential areas and directed towards the platform, ramps and rail line for the safety of customers and train drivers. The station entrance will be located on platform 2, providing direct access to Southland shopping centre. Access to platform 1 will be provided via an underpass, which will link platform 1 to the station entry on platform 2. A freestanding automated toilet will also be provided on the Southland side of the new station. The underpass linking platforms 1 and 2 will be located at the Bay Road (northern) end of the platforms. Access to platform 1 will be provided via an underpass, which will link platform 1 to the station entry on platform 2. Station access The station has been designed to be accessed from Southland shopping centre. The land will be used to assist with access to the site during construction of the station.
