Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday) Celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy Today, Sunday, April 12th 3-4 pm at St. Ann Church In 1935, Our Lord Jesus Christ appeared to Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun of the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy. Our Lord presented Saint Faustina with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Lord promised that whoever prays the Chaplet would receive extraordinary graces from God. The Lord Jesus said: “Encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given you,...When they say this chaplet in the presence of a dying person, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the judge, but as the Merciful Savior...Through the chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My Will.” On May 23, 2000, the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of Sacraments declared that the Sunday after Easter would now be celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday. That same year, Saint Pope John Paul II decreed that Mercy Sunday would be elevated to a universal feast within the Catholic Church. Divine Mercy Novena Booklets are available at the doors of the church. The Feast of Divine Mercy will be celebrated at Saint Ann Parish today, Sunday,April 12th at 3 pm. The service will include Adoration and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Recitation of the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. All are invited to join us as we ask for God’s mercy and celebrate the first anniversary of the canonization of Saint Pope John Paul II. Each parish will also have a coordinator who will be present on site during classes. It is my hope that by restructuring the program, the children of each parish will benefit from the combined resources that will enhance and strengthen their religious education. As I reviewed the current budget of Saint Mary’s Religious Education Program, it became apparent that by forming a single program, a substantial savings will benefit Saint Mary Parish. Currently, the cost of Saint Mary’s Religious Education Program this year is $70,000.00. This includes salaries, benefits and heat for the school. Under the new program, the cost to Saint Mary’s Parish will be $33,000.00. This savings is a result of sharing a collaborative staff and closing the school building. To heat the school for two hours a week for six months is costing the parish $20,000.00. With the approval of the Finance Council, beginning in September, Classes for Grades 1 - 5 will take place in the parish hall on Sunday Morning. This savings will enable the parish to address certain projects that will benefit the church property. As always, thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to strengthen our parish finances. I am Yours in Christ, Fr. Lou Palmieri, Pastor Religious Education: G rades 1-5 will end the Religious Education Year this week. Grades 1, 3-5 will meet in the school for their regular classes. Grade 2 will meet Mrs. Anderson in the church at 9:15. The children and their parents will go on a “church search” and then attend the 10:30 family Mass. After Mass the First Communion Class will go down stair in the hall for refreshments and then they will make a square for their First Communion Altar Quilt. Grades 6-8 will end their religious education year with a final class on April 13th at 6:30 in the school. Thank you to all of catechists for their dedication to the faith formation of our young people at Saint Mary’s. Confirmation: Confirmation class will resume tonight, Sunday, April 12 at 5:00 pm at St. Ann Church for Mass followed by their last class session. No matter which parish you are in, we ask that you test out the translator and see if it would valuable to include it globally on our entire collaborative website. We have added some of the primary languages of our parishioners. Are we missing any that should be included? Does the translator work well and make the text sensible? Your opinion is important! Please email your comments to [email protected]. • Digital photographers are needed to increase our library of photos for the website. We hope to set up a time (i.e. an hour on a Sunday) at each church and invite you to bring your digital camera to document our church buildings, statues, windows, etc. Please see upcoming bulletins for dates.
