Flute Challenge 2015 Guidelines Entries Close Friday, June 26, 2015 NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED PLEASE RETAIN FOR YOUR IMFORMATION • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • ALL SOLO ENTRANTS MUST BE MEMBERS OF THE QUEENSLAND FLUTE GUILD INC. School/Community Ensembles must have institutional membership. Members of these ensembles must have individual membership to enter the Solo Sections. Members of ensembles not connected to an institution must have individual membership. Flute Challenge 2015 is not open to professional players, i.e. persons who earn a significant proportion of their income from flute playing. Age restrictions apply for sections 2,3,4,9,10,11,12,13,14. Section descriptions for more information. For solo and ensemble sections: pre-recorded accompaniment, i.e. cd or tape, may be utilised providing that the melody is not carried and the volume levels allow the entrant to be prominently heard. All equipment must be supplied by the participant, i.e. cd player. Note: Entrants should be aware that tuning and ensemble technical issues should be carefully approached in this instance as discrepancies with the technology will be graded appropriately. Once a section’s time and entrant limit has been reached, there will be no further entries accepted. The QFG reserves the right to amend the program, i.e. vary the order of entrants in any section, or cancel a section if there are four entries or less. Time limits will be strictly adhered to. Any performance exceeding the time limit will be concluded at the adjudicator’s discretion. The adjudicator’s decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into. Prizes may be withheld or reduced where adequate standards are not met. The Adjudicator has the right to look at any entrant’s music to ensure they are in the correct section. In all sections dress and performance presentation will be taken into consideration appropriately. Memorisation is encouraged but not compulsory. No entrant, parent, guardian, or teacher may communicate with the adjudicators during the competition. All contestants with receive a written report at the end of each section. Official accompanists will be provided by the QFG for sections 1 to 8 on the day of the competition. If entrants wish to rehearse with their accompanist for their section, they must arrange a rehearsal at their own expense. Entrants will be informed about their official accompanist upon receipt of entry. It is strongly recommended that entrants use their designated accompanist to prevent clashes of performance times. No person is allowed on stage with the entrant at any time, tuning must take place during warm up and/or briefly on stage with the accompanist. Senior Small Ensemble Challenge—2 to 4 players, School grades 9-12 inclusive—Entrants in this category cannot perform in the junior or open small ensemble section. The use of a conductor is not permitted. Open Small Ensemble Challenge—2 to 4 players, Entrants in this category cannot perform in the junior or senior small ensemble section. The use of a conductor is not permitted. Junior Large Ensemble Challenge—5 or more players, School grades 3-8 inclusive—Entrants in this category cannot perform in the senior or open large ensemble section. The use of a conductor is permitted. Students above year 8 are permitted providing that they are of the same playing standard and their numbers are a minority. Open Small and Large Ensembles is open to mixed ensembles as long as one member playing the flute.
