Queensland Writers Fellowships 2015 Guidelines Queensland Writers Fellowships provide support for outstanding Queensland writers to develop a writing project towards publication over a 12 month period. Three Fellowships of $15,000 will be awarded in 2015. September/October 2015 Notification of results. 1 January 2016 Fellowship projects begins General eligibility Eligible writers must be: 1. A Queenslander: eligible writers must have lived in Queensland for at least the past three years or be Queensland-born writers who lives elsewhere, but can demonstrate continuing strong ties with the state. 2. Working on an Individual writing project which is approximately 12 months from completion: collaborative projects/works are not eligible, except illustrated children’s books. Your application must demonstrate that your proposed project is developed to the stage that it is likely to be ready to submit for publication at the conclusion of the 12 month Fellowship (December 2016). 3. A published writer: applicants must demonstrate a publication history with one or more of the following: One full-length published work for adults, young adults, or children. Self-published writers will need to supply reviews of their work that appeared in a recognised newspaper, professional magazine, or national journal Seven (7) short works of fiction or literary non-fiction (minimum 1,000 words each) published in professional literary journals, edited anthologies, major newspapers, or national magazines Fifteen (15) poems published in professional literary journals, edited anthologies, major newspapers, or national magazines. Assessment Criteria Application will be assessed against the following criteria: 1. Quality and uniqueness of the proposed project. 2. Viability of project plan and likelihood of a publication outcome. 3. Impact of the Fellowship on the applicant’s writing career. Judging Applications will be checked for eligibility by State Library of Queensland staff, and then forwarded to a panel of Judges for assessment and recommendations. The judging panel is made up of a mix of writers, critics, academics, and publishers. The final recommendations by the judging panel are submitted to the State Librarian and Arts Queensland for final approval. The outcomes of the judging process are final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into regarding the final decisions or the judging process. Support material Applicants are required to provide the following support material: A CV including your publication history (maximum 2 pages). A sample of your published work (maximum 10 pages). If submitting self-published works, in addition to this, you will need to include reviews of your work that have appeared in a recognised newspaper, professional magazine, or national journal. Up to three letters of support or testimonials from publishers, journals, or industry experts in support of your proposed project. A sample of the proposed writing project to show the tone and style of the work (maximum 6 pages). Judges understand this is likely to be at draft stage. Please note: it is important to be as accurate as possible with all information provided in your application. If you are awarded a Fellowship your application will form part of your funding agreement, and you will be responsible for completing your project as described. Submitting an application Applications to the Queensland Writers Fellowship program must be submitted by 5pm, 10 July 2015. Please follow these steps to apply for the 2015 Queensland Writers Fellowships: 1. Download and complete the application form, which is available at: http://www.qldliteraryawards.org.au/fellowships 2. Prepare the support material outlined above. 3. Email your completed application form and all support material to [email protected] before the closing date. Please label all documents clearly, and ensure your entire application email is under 2MB in total. 4. You will receive a confirmation email from State Library of Queensland once your complete application has been received and checked for eligibility. Please do not submit any original materials as part of your application, as they cannot be returned to applicants following the judging process.
