Participants of the Race 4 Research will walk or run through Technology Square, Cambridge’s biotechnology
hotspot, to raise money and awareness for the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better
known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that disables the brain’s ability to communicate with the
body, resulting in complete paralysis, but leaving the mind intact. Patients become trapped in their own
bodies, unable to move their muscles, speak, eat, or even breathe on their own. There is no known cause,
cure, or effective treatment for the disease. After diagnosis, patients live an average of two to five years.

Race 4 Research benefits the ALS Therapy Development Institute, a nonprofit biotech 100% committed to
ending ALS. Your generous donations and community spirit at the event will benefit the patients and families
who fight this disease every day.
ALS TDI is driven by a single, profoundly important goal – to discover an effective treatment for ALS as quickly
