June 2015 NEW MEETING LOCATION Over the past couple of months, the Board has been investigating various venues closer to home where we may hold our board meetings. We are pleased to announce that we have identified two locations and are in the final stages of the permitting process. As a community service, the Santa Margarita Water District makes one of their conference rooms, and their employee break room, available to qualified organizations during the evenings. The conference room is already booked for 2015 but we have been confirmed in the employee break room beginning with our August meeting. In November, SMWD will begin accepting applications for the 2016 calendar year and we will apply for the larger conference room at that time. The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center is the other facility we have been investigating. They are completely booked for 2015 and 2016 is almost gone! For 2016, only one room remains that meets our criteria so we have reserved that room in case the SMWD does not pan out in November and/or we are not happy with that facility. We will continue using the conference room at Santa Margarita Ford for some special board meetings since it’s close & a good size. However, since this room is closed during the evenings, the meetings will be held on weekends when owners are home and able to attend. In summary, we will be meeting at SMWD for the rest of 2015. In 2016, we will either continue meeting at SMWD or switch to the Murray Senior Center. (That decision will be made towards the end of this year.) VACATION CHECKS If you will be out of town this summer, please call Security if you would like them to keep an eye on your home and perform extra checks while you are away. The Board began planning for this inevitability back in September, 2013 by participating in the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s Landscape Irrigation Survey and gradually implementing the survey’s recommendations over the past year. Now, with the severity of the drought creating an increased sense of urgency, our Landscape Committee will be meeting with water officials and landscape designers to develop a comprehensive, long-term plan for a drought tolerant landscape within our community that will help us comply with the mandatory cutbacks and mitigate the effects of increased water rates scheduled for 2016 and beyond. This comes at a strategic time for Rainbow Ridge as one of our priorities is addressing the landscaping and irrigation under each of the stairways and in front of the downstairs units. The watering in these areas caused extensive dry rot damage to the stairway support posts and landings and now that these structures have been repaired we must ensure there is no repeat damage. The Landscape Committee will be providing updates throughout the summer as their work progresses. OUTDOOR LIGHTS The Board is pleased to announce that it has acquired replacement parts for the lights outside every front door (and on the rear balconies and back yards of certain units). and neglected.
