Good News:
Christ is Risen!
The word Gospel
means, “To announce
the Good News.” The
Apostle Paul defines
the
Gospel
in
1 Corinthians 15:1-4,
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I
preached unto you, which also you have received, and wherein
you stand; By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory
what I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For
I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how
that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And
that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day
according to the scriptures.” The Gospel is the “Good News”
that Jesus Christ died for our sins so that we can be forgiven, and
that He rose again to give us the hope of eternal life. Paul
continues in 1 Corinthians 15:17-19 by saying, "And if Christ has
not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for
this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all
men."In other words, if Jesus did not rise from death then our
faith in Him is useless. If there was no resurrection of Jesus,
there is no validity of Christianity. But, there is good news!
Christ arose from the grave! On that resurrection morning the
angel declared the “Good News” by saying, “He is not here: for
He is risen, as He said. Come and see the place where the Lord
lay” (Matthew 28:6). Jesus Himself declared the “Good News”
when He said, “I am He that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I
am alive for evermore” (Revelation 1:18)! The resurrection of
Jesus is good news to all believers in Christ! Jesus said,
“Because I live, you shall live also” (John 14:19). How
powerful are the words of that great Easter song written by Bill
Gaither, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow; because He
lives all fear is gone; because I know he holds the future, and
life is worth the living just because He lives!”
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Bro. Mike
Sundays, April 12 - May 24, at 9:30 a.m.,
Pastor Mike will begin a new Sunday
morning Bible class located in the Family
Life Center Room 001. Afterwards, class
will be offered each quarter during the
church year. The topic is “Living Our Life
with Purpose.” This class is strictly for
anyone not presently enrolled or connected to a Sunday Bible-study
class. For more information, please contact Pastor Mike or Jackie
Bryant, Director of Christian Education at 277-0011.
Youth & Children
We were fortunate to have the Carson-Newman A Cappella
Choir at Ridgecrest last month. If you were one of the 164 in
attendance, I know you were blessed by the worshipful choral
singing. Our Sanctuary Choir did a great job singing
“Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)” and “The Lord Bless
You and Keep You” with the university ensemble. Many
volunteers helped make this event possible. My gratitude goes
to the host families, greeters, kitchen staff, and others who
volunteered for the concert. It was a night of worship through
singing and service.
Our Sanctuary Choir will present “Good News from
Jerusalem” on Easter Sunday morning, 5th of April. This
Easter cantata was created by Dianne Wilkinson, who penned
many Cathedral Quartet hits such as “Boundless Love” and
“We Shall See Jesus.” The arrangements were done by Cliff
Duren, Camp Kirkland, Russell Mauldin and Dave
Williamson.
The Easter collection highlights key moments in Holy Week.
“Behold Your King” is an upbeat opener about Jesus’
triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus’ anguish at Gethsemane
and obedience to the Father is retold in “Thy Will Be Done.”
“Man of Sorrows,” by Wilkinson and Rebecca J. Peck, is a
new song about the crucifixion. The old hymn “Hallelujah,
What a Savior” is incorporated into the piece. The same
songwriting team authored “The Borrowed Tomb,” a song
about Jesus’ temporary burial. The final song is the title song,
“Good News from Jerusalem.” Randy Williams has the solo
on this Wilkinson/Jerry Salley song about the resurrection.
I hope you will join us Easter Sunday morning for singing,
preaching and prayer.
Bro. John
Happy Easter! “The dying Jesus is evidence of God’s anger
toward sin; but, the living Jesus is proof of God’s love and
forgiveness” –Lorenz Eifert
We are feeling God’s love this Easter from many of our church
members. Donations of books and money for candy were given
to the library. Thank you! Also, the awesome painted cross in
the library window was made, painted and donated by Richard
& Patricia Rhodes. What a generous contribution they have
made to the library. Thank you!
Have a wonderful Easter; we trust you will experience the love
and forgiveness God offers to each of us daily!
Let’s rejoice as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ and anxiously await His arrival!!! This
month we are beginning Vacation Bible School for everyone in
the church. On Sunday nights, April 19 thru May 31, from
5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Bro. Mike will teach adult VBS for
discipleship training. Youth VBS is planned for Wednesday
nights from 6:15 to 7:15p.m. Adult and youth VBS will
culminate with the commissioning service for our traditional
VBS, the largest evangelistic event held at Ridgecrest on May
31. The commissioning service will kick off VBS, June 1
through the 5, concluding with the annual celebration lunch on
June 7.
The theme of VBS this year is “Journey off the Map.” Jesus
Christ is our Guide for the journey! We will learn why it is
important to know our Guide, follow our Guide, trust our
Guide, stay on track, and keep watching for His return. The
studies will not only cover the Gospel, but look to Daniel and
his friends, and the trials and tribulations they faced in their
lives. Daniel 7:13 points to the “Son of Man,” Jesus’ favorite
term referring to Himself as the One that will return and reign
forever.
Why are we going to do VBS for everyone? Deuteronomy
11:19 instructs us to, “teach [God’s Word] to your children,
talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when
you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when
you rise.” VBS for everyone puts us all on the same page. It
enables us to have conversations with each other, with our
children and our grandchildren, about the thing that matters
most, the reason for Easter, the saving grace of Jesus!!!
See you on the Journey Off the Map!
