Welcome to the message series discussion. Hearing the message on the weekend is great, but talking through the message during the week can help you turn what God is saying to you into action steps. We are designed to be connected. We hope this discussion will help you grow in your faith in Christ and help connect you to others in your group. QUESTIONS 1) Nehemiah 1 - In about 536 B.C. 50,000 Jewish exiles returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. In 444 B.C. Nehemiah gets a visit from his brother who brings him bad news. Jerusalem is still in shambles. You would expect that, after almost 100 years, this would not be. a) What was Nehemiah's reaction and why is this important? b) Has anyone here ever fasted and prayed (not just prayed)? What was the result? c) What are some of the things Nehemiah prayed and how could this be a template for our prayers? 2) Nehemiah 2:1-9 - Nehemiah displays courage and trust in God as he goes before the King. He asked boldly and received according to God's purpose. a) In verses 2-5 we see the interaction between Nehemiah and Artaxerxes. What are some things that are significant about the interaction? How does this relate to us and how we should react in situations? 3) Nehemiah 2:10-20 - Nehemiah goes to work. God gave the vision but Nehemiah needed to put feet to his faith and do something. a) In verses 10-16 we see Nehemiah formulating a plan before he approaches those who will assist him. Why is this important? b) Verses 17-18 Nehemiah shares his vision. What are some of the important things we can note? c) Verses 19 shows us that not everyone was enthusiastic about Nehemiah's plans. What was the response of those who were against Nehemiah? How does this parallel the world's response to Christians? d) Verses 20 shows us Nehemiah's response. What are your thoughts about his response? NEXT STEPS / CHALLENGE: Take a spiritual inventory. Are you involved? Are you serving? Has God put something on your heart that requires action ... a next step. Bring it before God and ask for direction.
