March Break
The Studio will be closed for

Classes resume Monday

Easter Weekend
The studio will be open
Saturday April 4th, 2015 and
Monday April 6th, 2015. All
classes on Friday April 3rd
(Good Friday) are cancelled
due to it being a statutory holiday.
ADAPT Presentations, Spring Session
Good luck to all the dancers participating in the spring
session of ADAPT jazz & tap presentations scheduled
for April 1st. Best of luck and enjoy your chance to
show off how hard you have been working!
BDC Performance Company Showcase 2015
Tickets are now on sale for our third annual
Performance Company Showcase! Come and support
the BDC Performance Company members as they
preview their competitive routines for the first time on
stage in full costume! The showcase will be held at
Harmony Creek Community Centre on Sunday March
29th 2015, at 7:00pm (doors open 6:45pm). Tickets are
priced at $20.00+HST are and available for purchase
now! Order forms are located in the lobby of the
studio and Dorothy is there to help you purchase
tickets during regular office hours. If you are interested
in learning more about our Performance Company, this
showcase is a wonderful opportunity to see what it is
all about! The show is anticipated to be approximately
1 hour in length. We thank you ahead of time for
supporting the BDC Performance Company members
by attending our second annual showcase!
2015 Recital Guide – What is it?
The Bisland Dance Centre will be providing you with
detailed information regarding the recital process in
the form of our 2015 Recital Guide. This helpful
reference tool will lead you through the process
including information regarding the following:








Costume pick-up procedures
Recital Ticket pick-up procedures
Shoe/tights/hair/make-up requirements
Picture days/Dress rehearsal schedules
Picture/Recital DVD order forms
Recital day sign-in/sign-out procedures
Recital Show performance orders
Map/directions to Oshawa Little Theatre
The material changes every
year and we strongly
encourage all of our families
to familiarize themselves with
this guide in order to ensure
proper understanding of the
recital experience and how it
relates to your child. We
strive to keep all of our clients
knowledgeable on their
child’s dance education, so be
on the lookout for the 2015
Recital Guide. It will be handed out in class (and
available on the website) beginning Tuesday March
24th, 2015!
Recommendation Packages 2015
Beginning Saturday April 4th, 2015, Recommendation
Packages will be distributed to students. These
packages will serve as a guide for our clients in
determining what classes they should enroll their child
in for our 2015/16 season. The package will include the
new class and fee schedule with the recommended
classes highlighted for your convenience. All
placements have carefully been made by Ms. Bisland
and the staff and are based on a student’s personal
development over the year and syllabus requirements.
Early Bird Registration for 2015/16 Dance Season
The Bisland Dance Centre will be holding an early bird
registration on Saturday May 2nd from 10am to 2:00pm
and Sunday May 3rd from 11am to 2pm at the studio for
our returning families. Along with a discounted
registration fee, families who register for the 2015/16
dance season at our early bird registration will receive a
free limited edition BDC tank top! Families who register
for BOTH the 2015/16 season AND any summer program
will receive a limited edition BDC tank top and a free pair
of dance tights! We look forward to seeing you there and
thank you for your continued support!
July Annie Triple Threat Dance Day Camp
The Bisland Dance Centre will again be offering its
Triple Threat dance day camp where students ages 6
and up will act, sing, and dance! The July “Annie Triple
Threat” Summer Day Camp will occur Monday July 7th
to Friday July 11th and is priced at $280+HST. There is
the option for early drop-off and late pick-up one hour
prior and after the camp times for and additional fee.
Flyers and registration forms are available in the lobby
and we are now accepting registration!
July Street Dance Evening Intensive:
Learn from Mr. Kwame & working Hip Hop/Street industry
professional guest teachers at our new Street Dance
Intensive; pizza party, photo & video shoot with takehome headshot/DVD reel included in price!

The intensive will run from Mon. July 6th to Fri. July 10th,
5:30pm-7:30pm (7-10 years) $245.00+HST, 5:30pm9:30pm (11+years) $280.00+HST. First 10 students to
register receive a free t-shirt!
July 3 Week Evening Classes
BDC will again offer twice weekly dance classes from
Mon. July 13th to Thurs. July 30th, to students ages 3 and
up. Priced at $100.00+HST per 45 min class/ $90+HST
per 30 min class. Both beginner and more experienced
levels offered. Pro-rating available for those who
cannot attend all 3 weeks. Registration is now being
accepted! Please note that these classes must be preregistered for, they are not offered on a drop-in basis.
Performance Company August Summer Intensive
The Bisland Dance Centre will be holding its annual
Summer Dance Intensive for all returning and new Full
Part Time & Full Time Performance Company members
from August 10th to August 27th (attending the
intensive is required to be eligible to participate in the
Performance Company stream - invitations to our Full
Time & Part Time Performance Companies will go out
as part of the 2015.16 Recommendation Packages in
April.) Detailed information regarding schedules/pricing
by company level are now available in the lobby. For
those both currently on and invited to join the
Performance Company, make sure to keep those last
three weeks free in your summer calendar so you don’t
miss out on the opportunity to participate in the
2015/16 BDC Performance Company!
Recital Ticket Sales
Tickets for the BDC 2015 Recital, occurring on Monday
June 8th and 9th at The Oshawa Little Theatre, will go
on-sale beginning Friday May 1st 2015. Recital tickets
are priced at $20.00+HST (or 10.00+HST for those
students performing in only one show who are eligible
for student tickets – please see the list in your 2015
Recital Guide). Tickets will be available for sale for both
shows up to, and including, the performance nights as
long as they have not sold out. All tickets are general
seating; the Bisland Dance Centre cannot guarantee
tickets so please make sure to purchase early so you
are not disappointed.
Recital Reminder – Two Nights!
Just a reminder the 2015 BDC Recital will occur on two
nights - Monday June 8th and Tuesday June 9th 2015 at
the Oshawa Little Theatre. We pride ourselves on
holding recital performances that are reasonable in
length and in order to provide this convenience to our
clients, we hold two performances. Only members of
our Performance Companies and the senior jazz/tap
will be performing in both shows. All other students
enrolled in our regular programming will perform in
one show only. The 2015 Recital Guide, which will be
made available beginning Tuesday March 24th, will
provide the specific details regarding what classes are
dancing on what nights. We make our recital guide
available a month and a half prior to the recital to
ensure that our families are provided with this
important information in a timely manner. We are
excited to continue to provide a quality and timely
recital experience to both our families and dancers.
Student Tickets – who needs them?
Some dancers will only be performing in one act of the
recital. This means that they will be able to watch either
the first act from the audience prior to dancing or the
second act after dancing. This is something that only
affects a small portion of our student body, as the majority
of dancers are enrolled in multiple classes and, as such,
dance in both acts of the recital. For those student eligible
for student tickets, we encourage them and their families
to become part of the audience and support the studio
and their fellow dancers after their performance. While
we would love to offer our students the opportunity to
watch for free, due to limited seating every ticket must be
accounted for. This is why we offer a student priced
ticket, so that those who areavailable to watch one act are
able to do so at half price. BDC student priced tickets will
be sold for $10.00 + HST, beginning Fri. May 1st - one
ticket per eligible dancer.
BDC Performance Company Competition Schedule
This year, The Bisland Dance Centre’s Performance
Company will be representing us at three dance
competitions! The competition schedule is as follows:

Our first competition, Real, will occur April 11th
2015 at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay.

Our next competition is Believe the weekend of
April 24th – to April 26th at Oakville Centre For
the Performing Arts in Oakville.

Our last competition is Starcatchers which will
take place at the Armenian Youth Centre in
Scarborough (401 and Victoria Park) on the
weekend of May 8th-10th.
If any of our families would like to come to any of our
dance competitions (free entry) to support our studio and
cheer on our competitive dancers, please let Dorothy
know and she will give you the necessary details as to
performance times and location specifics. Schedules are
available approximately 2 weeks prior to the competition
dates.
Special News
Ms. Bisland is excited to be an Assistant Choreographer for
the Pan Am Games this July! Also congratulations to BDC
students, Micheal & Chloe, for receiving callbacks at the
Pan Am Auditions and to Tiffany for being selected to be a
performer in the closing ceremony!
