Job Description JOB TITLE: Advanced Learning Practitioner (of Lecturers) GRADE: Points 1 – 6 on the salary scale pro rata plus two additional increments FRACTION: Full-time Hrs/TEACHING Hrs: 37 hours per week of which 23 hrs per week is teaching – teaching is remitted by 5 hours per week RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Department LOCATION: New Bedford Road or Enterprise Way Campus KEY ROLES: 1. The Advanced Practitioner will support Curriculum Managers in relation to improvements in teaching and learning, particularly in mentoring new teachers, co-observing teaching sessions, carrying out peer observations and following up development identified in a teachers practice. Advanced Practitioners will be responsible to the Head of Teaching Academy for meeting targets relating to the quality improvement aspects of the role. 2. To teach allocated classes. 3. To act as group tutor as required. 4. To prepare, deliver and assess learners learning to the required high standards and expectations of the College. 5. To market and promote courses and programmes to a range of stakeholders. 6. To report on learners progress to parents and other stakeholders. 7. To act as an Advanced Learning Practitioner and actively promote and monitor the development of outstanding pedagogic practices. MAIN DUTIES 1. To make an effective contribution to raising standards of teaching and learning across the College through exemplary personal practice, coaching/mentoring other teachers, and playing an active part in leading and developing a modern College curriculum which meets the requirements of the learners, employers and funding bodies. 2. Preparation and delivery of lessons and courses; assessment, recording and reporting on assessments of students. JD Lecturer + ALP 1 16/04/2015 3. Acting as group and personal tutor; delivery of tutorial programme; guidance to members of tutor group; supporting and participating in curriculum development; accurate maintenance of registers; preparation of tutor reports. 4. Consultation and reporting with parents and colleagues as needed. 5. Attendance at staff, department, team meetings and parents’ consultation meetings. 6. Participation in examination arrangements including invigilation. 7. Participation in learner admissions, learner trips and visits, enrichment and guidance of learners. 8. Participation in marketing and promotional events. 9. Participation in the lesson observation process to the current college policy and procedures 10. To coach and mentor lecturers to improve their practice. 11. To lead in the development and adoption of outstanding teaching and lecturing practice in a variety of learning environments. GENERAL DUTIES The postholder will be required to: Perform any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Principal. Participate in appraisal and professional development as appropriate. Degree in a closely related subject or equivalent professional qualification at level 4 or above - A 2. Teaching qualification or obtaining a recognised teaching qualification within the 12 first months of service – A 3. Maths and English qualifications to at least level 2 or a commitment to achieve these qualifications within one ear of starting employment. 2. Desirable Education and Qualifications 1. Commercial experience of the subject required to teach of at least 3 years paid employment, or substantial experience of teaching the required subject with evidence of high standards achieved – A/T 3. Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills 1. Extensive knowledge of motivational and effective pedagogic practices - T 2. Substantial knowledge and experience of the range of tutoring, and learner tracking methods needed to ensure stimulating learning experiences - T 3. It is expected that teachers participate in extracurricular provision as well as parents’ evenings and open days. Annual Leave: 56 days annual leave per year including bank and public holidays and efficiency closure days. Probation: Confirmation of appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of nine months’ probationary period. Notice Period: The notice period for this post is one term. Trade Union Membership: Teaching staff have the right to belong to a trade union of their choice. Pension: Teaching staff are eligible to join the Teachers' Pension Scheme. Holidays Holidays can only be taken in specified times and never during academic term times. Exceptional circumstances will be given due consideration by the Principal.
