Our Theme:
Each month this year we are considering how different Biblical
characters made our Lord known in unique ways. In April, we
are learning about the apostle Peter – who made our Lord known
to those who were different.

OUR THEME FOR TODAY is “Sharing Jesus in a Materialistic World.” While we have
discovered that there are many things more important than the physical things of this world, we
recognize that many around us only measure happiness by the things they have – or do not have.


SCRIPTURE READINGS

The First Lesson for the Third Sunday of Easter is from the third chapter of Acts.

While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came
running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade. 12 When Peter saw this, he said to
them: "Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own
power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the
God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you

NEW TESTAMENT APOSTLES
Pastor Heining leads this class in the South
Fellowship Hall. This class is looking at the lives
of the men and women who surrounded Jesus
and were the first to share the Good News. The
primary source will be the Bible, but we will also
consider some interesting traditions.
CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED! SO WHAT?
The Resurrection of Jesus is the climactic event
in the history of the world. Have you ever
stopped to truly ask yourself what this climactic
event really means and how it changes your life
today and the world for eternity? This class will
actually be led by a seminary professor - Dr. Jeff
Gibbs not in person but close - online! A great
opportunity to learn from a man who has been
working on answering the “so what?” for over 28
years! Pastor Koglin facilitates the discussion
following each video in the North Fellowship
Hall.
ADULT CATECHISM:
Through Confirmation the 10 Commandments,
Apostles’ Creed, Lord's Prayer, Communion,
and Baptism are looked at in the
Catechism. However that is only half of what is
in this jam packed book by Martin Luther. The
Small Catechism was written for heads of
households to teach their family. There are a
few sections in the back we don't get time to
really look into. That is exactly what we will be
doing in this Bible study. We'll get the chance to
check out the other three sections of Confession,
Daily Prayers, and Table of Duties. Anyone is
welcome and encouraged to attend if they are
curious about the less looked at sections of the
Small Catechism. Brian Weyers leads this Bible
study in the Choir Room/Room 203.

On March 18 Redeemer members
passed a resolution, to form a call
committee for the purpose of calling an
additional DCE to serve as Director of
Youth and Education here at Redeemer.
The call committee held their
initial meeting last week, they formed a
job description and started the process of
collecting names to be considered for this
position. At this time we have received
names of new graduates, we have also
received a number of nominations from
within the congregation, and we are
looking forward to receiving a list of
names of DCEs serving in the field from
the district.
At the beginning of May the call
committee will meet to go through the
names and information and start
narrowing down the candidates. Once the
list of candidates has been narrowed
down, interviews will be conducted.
When the interview phase is complete a
voters meeting will be called and
Redeemer will vote to extend a call.
Throughout this process the call
committee will continue to share
information.
Please keep the call committee
and the congregation in your prayers as we
move forward together to seek the Lord’s
will. The call committee members are:

The good news I that we made great strides
forward during March. Having retired our
mortgage, we have greatly increased our
mission giving. We have also been setting
aside money for future care of our facilities.
We are grateful that we received $9328 in
Lenten Offerings that has been designated for
the support of Redeemer members going into
full-time church work — but that money has
not yet been paid out — so our financial
situation is not quite as good as it looks!
Thanks to all for your faithful giving which
makes our ministry possible — both here and
beyond.
VBS 2015
We will be scaling the mighty cold mountain of
Everest for VBS this year. Be on the lookout
around your house for winter theme
decorations as well as white sheets galore! As
we draw closer to the event we will be looking
for volunteers. July 12 is the kickoff night.
VBS goes from July 13 – July 17. Then we
will have a VBS celebration service in the
afternoon on July 19. See you there and we
can learn together how God’s mighty power
can help us overcome anything!

Youth Highlights!

P.Y.R.O.S. – P.Y.R.O.S. is planning on heading to Shorewood Senior
Campus TODAY. We are going to spend some time, 2:30-4:30, with the
residents there. We will be bringing some snacks and playing some
games with the residents. The sign-up sheet is on the Youth Board —
it’s not too late!

IGNITE – April 19th is the next Ignite! If you haven’t come out and
tried Ignite I think it is about time you did! We get to have a fun study
time and play some games and have snacks! We will be discussing self
esteem in our world today!

PIZZA RANCH—APRIL 21 - The next Pizza Ranch is April 21! I
know we have had a lot of them but they are a great fundraiser! Look
for the sign-up sheet!

Rochester Servant Event! – Please turn in your
REGISTRATIONS!!! – I know a lot of people are holding onto RSE
registrations. PLEASE TURN THEM IN! It will be a HUGE help to

PANDORA’S MOON – Come join us for a time of adventure and
challenge. We will be journeying to the third moon of Pandora to
gather together to face the imminent threat that has developed
there. Gather your strength and courage to face the dangers that all
heroes must face. This event is an evening event starting with food and
snacks. Then the group will face a series of challenges and obstacles as
their own designed characters to eventually reach the end. May
16 starting at 4:00 this adventure will begin. Any questions feel free to

April is Sports Eye Safety Awareness Month
Eye injuries are the leading cause of blindness in children in the United States and
most injuries occurring in school-aged children are sports-related. With April being Sports Eye
Safety Awareness Month, we ponder the fact that these injuries account for an estimated
100,000 physician visits per year.
Ninety percent of sports-related eye injuries can be avoided with the use of protective
eyewear, such as: safety glasses and goggles, safety shields, and eye guards designed for a
particular sport. Ordinary prescription glasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses do not protect
against eye injuries. Safety goggles should be worn over them.
Protective eyewear, which is made of ultra-strong polycarbonate, is 10 times more
impact resistant than other plastics, and does not reduce vision. All children who play sports
should use protective eyewear, not just those who wear glasses or contact lenses; this is
especially important for student athletes who have vision in only one eye or a history of eye
injury or eye surgery. For children who do wear glasses or contact lenses, most protective
eyewear can be made to match their prescriptions.
Parents…Currently, most youth sports leagues do not require the use of eye protection.
Parents and coaches must insist that children wear safety glasses or goggles whenever they
play; you might also consider encouraging your child’s school to adopt a policy on protective
eyewear for sports activities.
Be proactive regarding your children’s eye care – make sure they use protective eyewear.

LIFE THOUGHTS. . .
Redeemer Lutheran and our sister churches
have been engaging in an outreach event at
the University of Minnesota Rochester.
This outreach event is, in many ways,
connecting with people who have little
church connection in their past. Here is

BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK:
For you know that it was not with perishable things such
as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty
way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but
with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish
or defect. 1 Peter 1:18‐19 POINTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK:
How have I (and my family) been influenced by the materialis c
world in which we live?
What have I discovered to be more important than material
things?
In this month of April we are talking about Peter! Our
theme for the month is Making Him Known to those who
are Diﬀerent than us. Especially this week we are
looking at how we share Jesus to a materialis c world.
The world certainly does teach diﬀerent than the Bible in
terms of what is important to have and collect in life.
How many mes have we wanted something so bad and
we finally got it. We experience a few moments of bliss
and happiness with it. It could be a brand new toy, a car,
maybe a promo on. However a er a li le while the
newness wares oﬀ and there is something bigger,
brighter, be er, and newer that we now want. It
becomes an endless cycle of ge ng and ge ng and
ge ng. We will never be sa sfied by trying to get more
and more. There is always something be er on the
horizon.
The Bible comes at it from a diﬀerent angle. God sends
His son to us and Christ goes through torture, death, and
resurrec on in order to reconcile us with God the
Father. The one thing in all of crea on we cannot get on
our own is perfec on before God. The one thing we
could strive over our whole lives is something God did all
the work for us. In Christ, our Risen Lord, we have
everything we could possible need, and we didn’t do
anything to get it! This week remember that as you go
out into the world in your job, school, and life that we
have received the only thing we ever need, and He
wants you to share Him with everyone!

for our members who support the work of the church through their voluntary gifts.

month. We invite those who acknowledge their sinfulness, recognize that Christ’s
body and blood are truly present for our forgiveness, and are willing to give witness to
the unity of their faith with this community, to join with us in receiving the sacrament.
For those who for health or conscience reasons are not able to receive wine, please
note that there is a cup of white grape juice in the middle of each tray. Gluten-free
wafers are available in the middle of the bread tray for those with that allergy.
