INTERNATIONAL SERGEI SLONIMSKY COMPOSITION COMPETITION 10th January — 24th May 2015 www.remusik.org/competition RULES OF THE COMPETITION 1. Contestants must be born between 24th May 1975 and 24th May 1997. 2. Acceptance to the competition is not based on citizenship, nationality or religion of the contestant. 3. Only one composition may be submitted by every contestant. 4. The length of each composition must be between 6 and 10 minutes. 5. The competition is limited to “chamber music” and the finalists’ compositions may be both single-movement or multi-movement works, using all or at least five of the following instruments (lupophone and contraforte should be included in the composition): flute (piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute) lupophone clarinet (E-flat clarinet, B-flat clarinet, bass clarinet) contraforte piano harp violin violoncello Important: the composers chosen for the second round are encouraged to get in touch with the instrumentalists of ensemble proton bern, particularly regarding information about lupophone and contraforte. The organising committee of the competition is not responsible for paying the travel costs of the competition finalist and those accompanying them. 8. Travel, living costs and visa expenses are the individual responsibility of the finalists. 9. The results of the competition will be officially announced at the final concert, which is open to the public. 10. The Prizes: The certificates will be awarded, as selected by the Russian and international jury, at the end of the concert. Scores of the prize-winners’ works will be published by The St. Petersburg Contemporary Music Center – reMusik.org publishing house and be recorded under the “reMusik” label. RULES FOR APPLYING TO THE COMPETITION: There is no application fee. All materials must be submitted via e-mail no later than Tuesday 10th February 2015 to the following address: [email protected] Along with the application form, found at www.remusik.org/competition, contestants are required to send the following materials: For the first round: Deadline: 10th February 2015 1. Contestants must send the signed application and a short biography (in English or Russian). 2. In PDF format, a copy of the contestant’s passport or any equivalent document that confirms the age of the candidate. 3. A one-page biography in Russian or English. 4. Applicants should submit only one work proposal. The required material for the selection is as following: • Description/proposal: text of max. 2 A4 pages, which describes the idea of the aimed composition • Sketches: draft of the intended composition that exemplifies the aim of the composition. This may also be the completed score. • The score (in PDF) of one existing composition (excluding solo and orchestral works) if possible with recording (contestants may provide a recording of the composition in mp3 format). 5. Incomplete applications or applications which do not include all the requested materials mentioned above will not be accepted. 2 Санкт-Петербургский центр современной академической музыки For the second round: Deadline: 21st April 2015 1. In PDF format, the score and all the instrumental parts of the composition. OUTLINE OF THE COMPETITION PROCEDURES 1. The competition will consist of two rounds: the selection round and the finals. The selection round (based on portfolio: please see “Rules of the Competition”) will be held from 10 th January to 10th February 2015. The jury will then select a maximum of 4 composers to write a new work for the final round of the competition. The organising committee will notify the candidates no later than 17 th February 2015 of the result of their application after the initial selection round. Submission date of the completed works by the finalists is 21 st April 2015. The composers of the works in the final round will be invited to be present at the open rehearsals and final concert in St. Petersburg. The prizes and certificates will be awarded at the end of the concert, according to the judging made by a Russian and international jury. 2. The finals of the competition will take place in the form of a concert, open to the public. 3. The organising committee of the competition will invite all of the finalists to be present at the rehearsals and the final concert. 4. The competition finals may be broadcast live on the internet and/or recorded for future broadcasts and will also be given out to various audio and video broadcast sites. The competition will be available for viewing in-part or in-full on the Internet. 5. Finalists will be required to sign a contract to allow the organising committee full use of their compositions throughout the period of the competition. 6. The competition prize-winners will be required to sign a contract with The St. Petersburg Center for Contemporary Music – reMusik.org for publishing and recording rights to the score. 7. The organising committee of the competition and its representatives will not be financially obligated to contestants for the use of received materials. 8. Contestants may not contact or speak with any member of the jury before or during the competition. Any violations of this rule may result in the disqualification of the candidate. 9. Results will be announced at the end of each round. 10. The jury’s decision is final and not subject to review. 3 Санкт-Петербургский центр современной академической музыки 11. All of the information posted on the official website of the competition is final at the time of publication. The organising committee of the competition reserves the right to make changes to the rules if circumstances require. This document was originally drafted in Russian. Foreign contestants will receive an official invitation to the competition finals from the organizing committee. Contestants living in countries that have visa services with the Russian Federation must apply for their visa, independently, at the nearest embassy or consulate of the Russian Federation. 13. All applications will be reviewed by the organising committee of the competition with strict confidentiality. The committee reserves the right to request additional information from the candidates.
