Hi All – With the NRSA Fellowship deadline for April 8th approaching soon, here are a few tips to help ensure a smooth submission to URA and eRA Commons. AURA Grants Ensure that the Fellow is in the AURA system. If not, send their Name & CNet ID to [email protected]. In order to forward the AURA FP for approval, the Fellow and all Mentors/Sponsors listed in section 2.0b must complete their AURA FP Declarations and NRSA Assurance activities. You can check the “Assurances” tab in the FP workspace to see if all activities have been completed. eRA Commons Make sure the Fellow has an NIH Commons account with the PI role, and is affiliated w/ the University of Chicago. To confirm, you may send a message to [email protected]. Make sure ALL Mentors/Sponsors have an NIH Commons account with the Sponsor role, and are affiliated w/ the University of Chicago. To confirm, you may send a message to [email protected]. Letters of recommendation need to be uploaded in eRA Commons BEFORE the due date stated in the FOA. Referees can find that section on the front page of the Commons screen titled “Commons Related Resources” and select the Submit Reference Letter hyperlink that shows. o How Do I Submit a Reference Letter? Review FOA specific guidance to determine if the "Additional Educational Information" attachment is required. Examples: Examples: Notice to Emphasize the Requirement (F30 for Pre-doctoral Fellowships) http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-14-133.html Notice to Emphasize the Requirement (F31 for Pre-doctoral Fellowships) http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-14-134.html Notice to Discontinue the Requirement (F32 for Post-doctoral Fellowships) http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-14-137.html Note: File MUST be named “Additional Educational Information” (exactly – letter for letter) or it will produce an error upon submission, and require resubmission. NOTE: Request FULL COST of tuition and fees at time of application. The applicant should request the full costs of tuition and fees as described in Section A-5 of the NRSA FAQ. Please also see Section A. Tuition and Fees for additional information. Issue: The core of the issue is that NIH will pay 60% of the tuition we request on fellowship and training grant budgets UP TO $16,000 ($21,000 for MD/PhD programs). Therefore, if we request $16,000 on our budget, they will still only pay 60% of the requested amount – meaning we get short changed on tuition at award time. If you are unsure what tuition to charge, you can reference the Bursar Tuition page here: https://bursar.sites.uchicago.edu/page/tuition-rates. Please contact your URA manager with any questions you have related to the application and/or [email protected] for any assistance with the AURA system.
