From 1 January 2015, the Government is planning to establish a
Medical Research Future Fund. The Fund aims to help Australia to
maintain a world class medical research sector.
Currently Australia has one of the most fragmented health and
medical research systems in the world that is driven by many different
funding agencies. Despite advances in basic research there are still
considerable gaps in the acceleration of those findings into health and
industry.
Collaboration between clinicians, researchers and industry is essential
if Australia is to secure a leading position in delivering world class
healthcare and being at the forefront of important medical discoveries.
Are you ready to take the next steps to become a leading centre of
collaboration in health and medical research?
This conference will address how to:
•• Strengthen basic research translation for better health outcomes
•• Demonstrate leadership in research translation and impact
•• Effectively manage and negotiate the collaboration process
•• Develop strong governance and management structures for
collaboration
•• Share resources to improve research outcomes
Who will attend?
This conference is for senior management with
responsibilities for enhancing research outcomes from:
Universities
Medical research institutes
Publically funded research organisations
Medical & biotech organisations

collaboration
Pre Conference Workshop A
Tuesday, 17th March 2015, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Mid Conference Workshop B
Wednesday, 18th March 2015, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Collaboration between clinicians and researchers at Johns Hopkins has led
to numerous breakthroughs in health and medical research and delivered
improved health outcomes. The success of Johns Hopkins has been
underpinned by the integration of patient care, research and teaching. This
collaborative approach to research has led to significantly more access to
competitive grants than peers and world class leadership in a number of
medical breakthroughs.
There are a diverse range of barriers to collaboration between universities,
medical research institutes, health care providers and industry. The process
to drive collaboration requires strong leadership and a shared vision for
those involved.
With the Government proposing increased support for health and medical
research through the future fund: are you planning to join the movement for
better research outcomes and translation by becoming a leading centre of
collaboration?
Attend this workshop & learn how to:
• Integrate healthcare and research for better research and health outcomes
• Provide national leadership in research translation and evidence-based
clinical care
• Effectively utilise research data and information to improve knowledge
and consumer care
• Embed research and translational activities with education and training
Moving towards collaboration has many benefits but communicating
those effectively to drive parties to work together can be difficult. Greater
understanding of the benefits of a partnership can strengthen the
negotiation and management process.
Are you struggling to define and frame benefits to attract, negotiate and
manage partnership?
Attend this workshop & learn:
• Define and communicate the benefits of a partnership
• Drive a collaborative culture from within
• Attract support and investment from partners
• Negotiate research partnerships to create a shared vision

How to share resources to drive innovation & impact
Post Conference Workshop C
Friday, 20th March 2015, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Hospital and care networks, as well as research organisations, institutes
and universities have in the past conducted research with a fragmented
approach, limiting innovation and impact.
Your workshop leader:
Collaborating can help you achieve research excellence, improve research
translation and strengthen innovation pathways. The process of collaboration
can be cumbersome and require leadership to strategically manage the
sharing of resources to maximise research outputs and impact.
Attend & learn how to:
• Improve cost efficiency by pooling resources and capabilities
• Strategically manage the sharing of resources to maximise innovation
• Increase the propensity to bring new discoveries to market
• Reduce financial risk through leveraged funding
