A new phone system installed earlier this year has brought a few new phone numbers. While the main phone numbers for the Belt Branch (232-5479) and Savannah Branch (324-4569) remain the same, the Business Office can now be reached at 236-2106. The bookmobile and outreach services have a direct number of 205-7100. We’ve also updated our library logo, providing a modern look with a variety of colors. (Look for it on Page 6.) The logo, which features a stylized version of a row of books, was designed by technology services librarian Kelly Morris and first used on new library cards in 2012. On May 1, the library’s website, www.rhcl.org, will be updated with a simplified format that is easier for patrons to use, can be updated more regularly and alllows for easier searching of the library catalog and the website. Belt program to consider end-of-life decisions There are many issues to consider when death is near, and planning ahead can make that time easier on the dying and family. Four experts will discuss those issues at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Belt Branch. Dr. Joyce Allen of Mosaic PalliativeCare will discuss hospice and palliative care arrangements. Attorney Jere Loyd will cover will preparation, estate planning, living wills and advanced directives. The Rev. John Watson will discuss the moral and spiritual issues of dying and family considerations. Friends of the Library The Friends support the library through volunteer and fund-raising efforts. Meetings are set for January, April, July and October. Rolling Hills Library Foundation The Foundation strives to provide financial support for large endeavors and future growth of the library by seeking substantial gifts from patrons and supportive foundations. 2 Bookstore reaching out on Facebook From Page 1 but when you do it’s better than you expected,” he said. “It feels like a real bookstore – we have our own personality and character and charm.” Morton, who previously worked at the former Borders bookstore in St. Joseph, describes the store’s décor of brightly colored walls, modern furniture and dark wood counters as “mod comfort.” Already the Belt Highway location has brought an increase in business. Morton has seen more new customers and also regular customers dropping in www.rhcl.org more often to peruse the shelves. Books Revisited also has a Facebook page and plans are in the works for a newsletter that will announce sales and special events, such as more book signings. Friends president Patrick Dare marvels at how far the Friends have come in their efforts to support the library. “If anyone had told me years ago that all those semi-annual book sales using folding tables along with boxes and boxes of books and a used cash register that only opened and closed would lead to Books Revisited, I would not have believed it,” he said. Library Scenes The Friends of the Library trip April 17-18 to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark., was so big that not everyone could fit into one group picture. Besides the art museum, the group visited the Wal-Mart Museum on the Bentonville town square. After 25 years of putting on craft classes for young and old, leading children’s Storytimes and the Summer Reading Program at the Belt Branch, Patti Swartz celebrated her last day at the library on April 15 with a going-away lunch.
