the JULY 2015 newsletter HARBOUR SENIOR LIVING OF MONROEVILLE | a Senior Lifestyle community | MONROEVILLE, PA 15146 | 412-380-2589 JOIN US THIS MONTH FOR the story and the glory! BEHIND EVERY AMAZING EVENT THERE IS AN AMAZING STORY. BEHIND EVERY AMAZING STORY ARE AMAZING PEOPLE. This month’s theme, “The Story and the Glory,” July 4 Picnic Lunch will focus on the people in history as well as those in our personal lives who have literally changed the course of time. Storytelling is the oldest form of entertainment. This month begins with celebrating 239 years of independence. After a picnic-style lunch on the Fourth, songwriter, storyteller and musician Rick Bruening will bring to life our country’s most cherished memories. We will enjoy a variety of events throughout the month to capture our imagination and touch our hearts. Join us for an old fashioned radio story theater, a presentation of The Book of Love, or write your own story in our Journal Journey club. We will be inspired once again by those who have written history with their lives and who have shared their story and the glory. THIS MONTH’S word from your executive director As we look at our theme for July, “The Story and the Glory,” it reminds me of all of the stories that my grandfather told me about growing up in the early 1900s. Many times he recalled how things were during the Great Depression. Many called these the “good old days.” The times may have been difficult for many during the Depression, but it was also a much simpler time. There was not the technology that we have today and life was not as rushed. I have to say, sometimes it might be nice to revisit some of those “good old days.” So from the stories that my grandfather told me I realize that we overcame the depression and have become the most prosperous nation in the world — hence the other part of our theme, “the Glory.” TRAIN YOUR BRAIN sudoku solution on back silver star LEOTA MCCORMICK Colorful, creative and caring are three words that describe our dear Lodi. These amazing show dogs visit with us each month until winter time. We fondly refer to them as our snowbird dogs as they fly south for the winter and return in the spring. For the past five years, trainers Linda and Ron Moore have faithfully been bringing their beautiful Shelties monthly to our community. We are ever so happy to welcome them back as they bring so much joy to our residents. Concierge extraordinaire! THIS MONTH’S chart hero CARING, HONESTY, APPRECIATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK With 16 1/2 years of faithful dedicated loving service, this CHART award can only be rightfully given to our wonderful concierge, KANDI. When it comes to first impressions, Kandi is absolutely the best person to be sitting behind the welcome desk to meet and greet everyone who walks through doors at Harbour Senior Living. She began as our first hired care attendant for Legacy Court and original Lead in personal care. She also has worked in the Dining and Housekeeping departments as well as Activities. She brings a whole new meaning to the word “multi-tasking.” Kandi’s name is a perfect reflection of her personality ... sweeeeeeet! We are exceedingly blessed to have her on staff for these many years. She is the heart and soul of Harbour and no one is sweeter than Kandi!
