President’s Report
I would like to thank Glenn Cuffe for doing a great job organising the run to Riviera Factory and
Restaurant. We had a great turnout so thanks to all who participated.
Our March run on 22 March is to the Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy and lunch at View Kitchen.
It would be lovely to see you all come along. Check your calendars.
April is the Golden Oldies run to Sketches Restaurant at Ravensbourne, with a morning tea stop at
Fernvale. Everyone with an old car please bring it along and of course all of you with newer models are
more than welcome.
I am going up over Mt Glorious to Fernvale! My Rolls-Royce 20/25 is now 80 years old and I am 55.
So in respect to James Radley and Rolls-Royce I am going to do a mini, very mini, Alpenfahrt! Please
feel free to join me. Start at Samford Pub at 8:30am. Allowing 1¼ hours to Fernvale where we meet
the other members at 9:45 at Fernvale Memorial Park for morning tea.
Call me or send an email if you would love to join me. Especially if you have a pre war car and especially
if you have a Ghost! Yes, you modern cars are welcome too, but Barry must wear his lederhosen.
On a more serious note - a number of members have asked if anything more is being done about the
Queensland Branch having a clubhouse. You will recall that at the General Meeting held in March 2014
a motion was passed in favour of the Branch Management Committee acquiring a Clubhouse at some
time but did not pass the second motion to authorise the club to purchase the property on offer, namely
Unit 1, 40 Leonard Crescent, Brendale.
Since that time the Management Committee have regularly discussed the matter of an acquisition.
A property such as Unit 1, Leonard Crescent, required outgoings of about $7000 per annum on top of
any borrowings to fund the purchase. Reference to the last two Annual Financial Statements shows the
Branch tends to generally break even over the year with the current level of income and expenditure. It
could not fund the borrowings and outgoings at the current level of income.
Accordingly, the Management Committee have concluded that a clubhouse would only be viable if a
benefactor(s) donates the funds to purchase a property or donates a suitable building and in addition
there is an identified source of income to cover the outgoings to insure the financial security of the
Branch. A rent-free lease might be considered but again any outgoings would need to have an identified
source of funds. A lease however may well be short term and any Branch expenditure would be sunken
funds.
So, in the absence of a benefactor(s) the Management Committee will not be actively pursuing the
acquisition of a Branch Clubhouse at this time, but the motion passed at the March 2014 General
Meeting enables the Management Committee to move on an acquisition should circumstances change.
That said we would take any proposal back to a General Meeting of Members of the Branch for their
consideration prior to any acquisition. I trust this clarifies things for all.

A Visit to Riviera Yacht Factory and Club

The Branch event for February proved popular with 68 members and guests in 20 Rolls-Royce and
Bentley motor cars attending the Riviera Yacht Factory and Club on the banks of the Coomera River,
about halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Riviera Yachts is the biggest producer of luxury production yachts in Australia and has a significant
export business throughout South East Asia and the Americas. The site of some 14 hectares contains a
training school for staff as well as various factory buildings. The factory employs 400 people and makes
every boat from scratch, with a standard series of models which can be modified to meet the
preferences and tastes of the owners.
Chris Attard, Riviera Production Manager, and three of his staff, divided the group into four to do the
walking tour of the various parts of the factory. We were able to see in the various sheds the production
line and process from the initial hull moulds, decks, the mating of these two components, followed by
the engine and fuel tank fitting, interior components, instrumentation, cabinet work, soft furnishings and
the stainless steel work.
This was followed by an inspection of four completed yachts that had undergone acceptance testing and
were moored alongside the Riviera Yacht Club on the banks of the Coomera River. It is fair to comment
that the tour was an eye opener for all, especially the management of the complexity of the process and
the high quality of the finished products emerging from the various stages of the production line.
After the tour we dined at the Riviera Yacht Club, which was established to cater for Riviera owners and
guests. It was a club event with a difference which appeared to strike an accord with all who attended.

Bentley has commenced 2015 in a prodigious position, continuing on from impressive 2014 results,

Helpful Hint RR 363 brake fluid
Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, T series and derivatives require Castrol brake oil RR 363 for their
brake and suspension system. For some time this brake oil has been hard to come by.
NBS Services does use and stock RR 363 fluid. The factory [Crewe genuine parts]
recommends the use of RR 363 brake oil. But for emergency top up, the use of Dot 3
brake oil is allowed and should be drained and flushed as soon as possible. RR 363 brake
oil is specially designed and manufactured for these vehicles.
When topping up the brake reservoir it is important to let the vehicle run and idle for
four (4) minutes to allow the system to pressurise.
