He was born Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925. His father was an organizer in Marcus Garvey's movement. Malcolm became the national spokesman for the Nation of Islam by 1960. By 1964 he had built a mighty link between Africans throughout the world through his fiery, charismatic speeches of truth and his founding of the Organization of Afro-American Unity, OAU. He was assassinated February 21, 1965. We will also be celebrating the birthday of a present day Black leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan, born May 11, 1933. Minister Farrakhan is the leader of the Nation of Islam and has fostered cooperative relations among all religions of African People to uphold unity among Black people. He is the coorganizer of the Million Man March and is a charismatic speaker for African Americans in the 90's. ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE - MAY 11, 2015 Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. STANDARDIZED TESTING /MAY 11th – 13th 3rd - 8th grade standardized testing will be Monday – Thursday, May 11th – 14th. The testing will begin at 9am sharp. No makeup testing will be given. CLASS PICTURES - (wear uniform/1st -8th grades) Wednesday, May 13th 2 Friday, June, 4 th, 2015 SCHOOL TRIPS Microsoft – May 14th and 28th (Middle School) UniverSoul Circus - June 5th - IMPORTANT: Parents need to have their children at the school by 8:30 a.m. All students must be at school by 8:30am. If your child arrives after the bus leaves; there is NO acceptance of the child for that day. Children cannot be left in the office or brought to the trip after the class leaves the school. CAREER AWARENESS MONTH - May 21st Parents are invited to come and discuss their careers with our students. Please discuss: 1) your career, 2) a typical day, 3) what you enjoy about your career, 4) what preparation is needed for the career, 5) the typical starting salary & benefits. Also try to have hands-on activities related to your job for the students. Our Middle School students are also looking for a whole day apprenticeship in the career of their choice. Please let us know if you are available to let a student shadow you at your job on Thursday, May 21st .. ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DAYS' PLACEMENT OF THEIR CHILD.
