Week 1 Term 2
Dear Parents
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust the break and change of routine was beneficial for all. Yesterday we were blessed with fine weather
for our solemn and respectful ANZAC Ceremony held at our Lone Pine tree on the oval. Thank you to the members of the Australian
Armed Forces, family and friends who were able to share this time with our Rosary community. Thanks is also extended to Mr Steve
Doszpot MLA, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Rogers, Squadron Leader Ric Peapell, Father Kieran, Father Bernie, the Years 5 and 6 string
ensemble - Maddy Jiang, Elisha Adisa, Natalie Neshev, Lucinda Peapell, Sara Blakey and James Northcote. Also the representatives
from each year level who placed a wreath, as well as flag raisers Patrick Bethune and Boyd Kelly who remained still during the service
and raised the Australian Flag reverently. Our Rosary students were beautifully behaved and showed their awareness of the significance of the occasion.
A huge thank you to Alison Marks and Philippa Brotchie who coordinated the ceremony and the Rosary Remembers ANZAC display.
Their vision, energy and commitment is truly remarkable. Thanks also to the many families who contributed to the Rosary Wall of Remembrance. Please visit the display in the canteen area if you have not already done so, as it is very inspiring. As always, none of this
would have been possible without the support of the entire Rosary staff. A special thank you to Melissa Thornton for her assistance
with the morning tea.
NAPLAN: Don't swot and don't stress
With two weeks until the 2015 NAPLAN tests, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) want to pass
on the message to students and their families that there is no need to swot for NAPLAN and no reason to stress. NAPLAN tests are
not the pass/fail variety like some other tests. They provide a snapshot in time of each student’s progress in relation to their peers, and
measure and track learning progress over time.
All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will sit the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests on 12,
13 and 14 May 2015.
ACARA suggests that parents can help reduce any pre-test nerves by maintaining a calm, low-key approach at home.
Kindergarten Enrolments for 2016
Enrolment packages are available from the Front Office. It is expected that spaces will fill quickly, so please ensure that the enrolment
application forms are returned to the school by Friday, 29 May. Spaces cannot be guaranteed, even for siblings, if the applications
are not returned within the enrolment period. Our Open Day is being held next Wednesday, 6 May between 9:00 am and 12 noon.
Could you please pass this information on to any families you know who have children starting school next year.
Staffing Changes
We start the term with the unfortunate news that Mr David Kelly has resigned his Year 3 teaching position at Rosary. I would like to
thank David for his work with 3 Osaka during first term and wish him all the best for the future. Beginning next week and for the remainder of the year, Mrs Julie Godfrey will teach the class Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Hoda Farhadi on Thursdays and Fridays.
Hoda has worked as a relief teacher at Rosary over a number of years and is well liked and respected by both students and staff alike.
Together they will make a wonderful team.
Ms Janet Hanratty will return to Rosary part time and work with students in the Numeracy Intervention Program.
Kind regards
Maureen Doszpot

Year 2 Rome has been very busy this year!
History/Geography
In History we learned how to count to 10 in Italian: zero, uno, due, tre, quattro,
cinque, sei, sette, otto, nove, dieci.
We have also learned about significant places in Canberra and did some mapping on
a Canberra map.
Art
In Art we learned to draw portraits and we all cooperated and did some crazy cooperative
drawings as well as landmark collages of significant places in Canberra. Layla, Maia,
Tina, Lucy
Science
We have been doing experiments with water. We have learned the water cycle
and new words like evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We learned
that the water collects and runs off.
We did and experiment on what water sounds like, looks like and smells like
and tastes like. Then we added some things to the water and saw how it
changed the water. Michael, Alexandra, Sebastian, Ania
Maths
We have done lots of measurement activities. We measured our hands and feet and even the classroom.
We have learned how to add and takeaway and count to 1 thousand. We made pictures and patterns from
shapes. We play games on the computer that help us with our Maths skills. Eva, Jacinta, Brodie, Oliver
