Club Of Bombay Airport District 3140 R. I. President- Gary C. K. Huang Editor- Harsha Mehta District Governor- Ajay Gupta June 2015 Club President - Kevin Colaco Club Secretary - Ujwal Andhari From the President’s Desk The month of May, not being a designated month by Rotary, we are expected to introspect on all the months gone by during this Rotary Year. Our club can very happily look back on all our activities, projects, fellowships, etc and rightly feel proud of the fact that, we have truly helped our under privilaged fellowmen, while at the same time Lighting Up Rotary. While our major community service projects are nearing the completion stage, and we are gearing up for a spate of inaugurations next month, we are now concentrating on quite a few medical projects, knee replacement surgery, eye surgery and couple of blood donation camps being some of them. All in all, while the heat of summer makes us sweat, we are putting in our extra efforts to Light Up Rotary. May is the best month for school and college students as they do not have the tension of studying or getting up early to attend class. They either relax, play or go vacationing away from this hot and humid summer weather. It's that age with a right to party and just don’t bother much about the results or the next term. For us at RCBA, there is never such a month of vacationing. And so, many projects in line were planned or executed. Our members just want society's needy to be happy and cheerful much like they seek for their own. A Treasure Hunt planned by Rtn Kanir and his team was keenly delightful for the members. Though there were winners and losers, joy and team spirit kept everyone in best of their moods. As Abraham Lincoln has said, “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." So vacation or no vacation, be happy. Harsha Nitin Mehta [email protected] June 2015 Tryst with destiny!! 12.20 pm , the phone rings , its my daughter in law, & what she tells me freezes me . My hearts sinks & my body is numb. The kids & she are in the midst of the devastating Nepal Earthaquake, but alive . The dead & injured lay around, the temples still crumbling, the crevices on earth becoming deeper & with every tremor the havoc & chaos maddening. All I could do at that time was tell her to be strong & use her mind wisely, but in my heart I was crying with fear. The journey to Mumbai from Bhaktapur for her has been not only exhausting & challenging but very very traumatic . What she has been through & felt is beyond my comprehension, but in my heart I have a new found gratitude & respect for the life of oneself & others. In our busy schedules we forget how very fortunate we are & how we need to give back. Nepal is one of the poorest countries of the world & for this to happen, is absolutely devastating ! Nepal needs help & in abundance. My daughter in law & me are in touch with hospitals, doctors & NGOs to provide the relief required. We have been trying to tap all means to send the requirements which has been tents, masks, blankets, medicines, food & corrugated sheets. We as a family have died a million deaths till the time they returned home. I cant Imagine how painful it is for the victims families who have lost their loved ones. I do hope & pray that the people affected find the strength to rebuild their hearts & their lives. Rtn.
