Wine Education and Tasting
In my welcoming remarks last year I complained about the winter
of 2013-14, I promise, no mention of 2014-2015. Well, here we
are again this year; coming together to show our support for
another Miramichi charity that really needs a helping hand, the
Miramichi SPCA. It’s always gratifying to know that 100% of the
money raised for the charity stays on the Miramichi. It’s always
accelerating to the soul to give a little and learn a little and with
the wide array of different taste experiences this evening, have a
wonderful evening. Jim Gertridge, Manager of the Rodd Miramichi
and I welcome everyone to this newly renovated Miramichi icon
and thank you for coming to this important fund raising event.
There is no question that everyone wants to support the SPCA
because of the great work they do on the River, but I would doubt
that very few of us know that it costs $8000 in a good month to run
the animal shelter. The spring time is even more expensive because
it is kitten season with the extra costs of sick kittens, fleas, ear mites,
vaccinations, spaying and neutering costs.
Enough said about the cause, now something about the event.
This evening you will have the opportunity to awaken the senses
and educate the palette by sampling over 70 plus different beers
and wines, served by experts in their fields. Take the time to ask
questions and use this program to take notes about your favorites.
A new addition this year, I’ve added five circles on each line of
a product, so that you can taste and rate the beer or wine. Hope
this helps.
With great support of businesses and individuals we have arranged
twenty items for the silent auction. Your support is appreciated and
remember a lucky ticket holder will win an Escape Weekend to
any RODD Resort. And remember don’t drink & drive. The Rotary
Club of Chatham has hired two buses to take you anywhere within
city limits at no charge starting at 9:00 pm.
Finally don’t forget to say a thank you to the Wine & Beer
Representatives for giving up all or part of their weekend to be
with us. Let them know you appreciate it. JC Belzile from Churchill
Dauphinee tells me this will be his last trip to the Miramichi as a
wine rep, I hope not JC! Thanks for your support. I’ve chaired this
project for five years and it’s my last year too. Thanks to everyone
for their help in making these events a success.
