Please join me in supporting Regent Park School of Music (RPSM) by
being a sponsor at CRESCENDO 2015. The evening takes place on
Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in the Ada Slaight Hall at Daniels Spectrum
in the heart of Regent Park. It’s a sensational evening of music, cocktails,
canapés and good fun, bringing over 400 people together to give
children the gift of music.
RPSM is here to make sure that as many children as possible receive
a music education by removing the financial obstacle.
This year, RPSM will give 2,000 young people aged 3-18 a music
education at their central hub in Regent Park and in 7 other high-priority
neighbourhoods in Toronto.
RPSM students have access to over 60 music teachers and an array of
musical options and instruments. They learn everything from classical
piano to turntablism. Music allows them to flourish creatively, personally
and academically...enriching their lives and future prospects.
Our CRESCENDO 2015 goal is to raise $250,000. We’d love you to
be a part of it.

ABOUT REGENT PARK SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Founded in 1999, Regent Park School of Music (RPSM) has grown from 71
students to now reach 2,000 children and youth in Regent Park and 7
other high-priority neighbourhoods in Toronto.
•
We provide quality, highly subsidized music education to youth in need
aged 3-18.
•
Students learn everything from piano to violin, voice to percussion
and brass to digital music making. Students play and perform solo, in
groups and ensembles.
•
Students have the chance to perform in public and boost their self
confidence at over 50 events a year. Last year they were part of
Luminato, sang with the TSO at the Regent Park Opening, and created
music for Pharrell Williams “Happy” initiative.
•
We offer daytime, after school, weekend and summer music programs
in Regent Park, Jane & Finch, Parkdale, Alexandra Park, Willow Tree,
Malvern, Bridletown and St. Jamestown.
•
Our 3,000 sq. ft. Regent Park space has 4 private studios, 2 larger
group studios and a Great Hall. We also bring music and faculty into
TDSB schools and community centres across Toronto.
•
Virtually all the funding comes from private individuals, foundations
and corporate support, with the government giving only 4% last year.
This year’s budget is just over $1 million.
•
It costs RPSM approximately $500 to give
one student group music lessons for a year,
and $1,500 to train one student privately.
Families pay as little as $1 for a group
lesson, and $2 for a private lesson. For
some families even $38 a year is more
than they can afford.
•
No child is ever denied a music
education because it is beyond the
financial means of their family, but we
always have a waiting list.

All children benefit from
a music education, but for
youngsters living in high risk
communities the benefits
are remarkable. The study
of music fosters character
development and teaches
valuable social, creative
and critical thinking skills
− all necessary traits for a
commitment to school work,
academic achievement and
success in the workforce
later in life.
At RPSM, students learn
music in a safe, nurturing
environment, which
becomes a “second home”
to them, helping them steer
clear of the many negative
influences around them.
The school helps raise their
aspirations and hopes for a
bright, independent future
where they can realize their
full potential. In a magical
way music becomes the
great equalizer.
