Rover’s Home Game Newsletter PRESIDENT DAVE SAYS: Welcome to Edition 3 of the Dogs Tales. The last two weeks have seen the A Grade have come off pretty tough losses, and today I think we will bounce back with a win! The B Grade, U18’s & U15’s have each had a win and a loss in the last two away games and the Under 13’s have won 3 in a row! This week we play Berri who are undefeated in the A Grade, so there would be nothing nicer than knocking them of their perch today. The new trophy cabinet is near completion and looks fantastic, especially with all the new tables & chairs and honour board now on display. Round 5 is Ladies Day, with the Fundraising Committee putting in a massive effort to make it a special day for all. I am sure the ladies will put on a decent display to match the players’ performance on field (good luck ladies!) We will be finalising the scrap steel merchant in the next two weeks for collection, so if you haven’t put your name on the register, please do so. We went to the Renmark Club for presentations last Saturday and it was a great night out… the food was excellent (as were the beverages), with a large crowd in attendance. A big thank you to the Renmark Netball Club for supporting us as well. Keep supporting the Rovers as you have all season, and the boys will come home with a win! President Dave Birch 16 May 2015 RENMARK v BERRI - Rd 5 A GRADE - John Persinos: Hello Supporters, Hasn’t been the best start to the season, being 0-4. With injuries, we’re certainly being tested as a team & club. The current environment is not ideal but as a team we’re working hard to turn things around to achieve our goals. Injuries have brought some of our plans forward with some of our developing players. To watch these young men over the past several weeks has been a highlight; Mitchell Jenke & Lachlan Lellmann have held their own and been amongst the best players. Ladies Day … an enjoyable function especially around 5.00pm! Who will make the highlights reel this year? It’s always entertaining receiving advice post game after this function - nothing like the smell of white wine on someone's breath! Enjoy the day Pers NEXT WEEK: AWAY V LOXTON NORTH B GRADE - Matt Martinson Hi All Welcome to another home game for the Rovers, & a special welcome to all the ladies attending Ladies Day; we hope you enjoy the day. The boys will be looking to bounce back this week after a disappointing show against Loxton last week. To put it simply we just didn't show up to play! A very frustrating day and I'm sure a frustrating day for our supporters who watched the game. In the end to play like we did and only loose by 8 points was again, frustrating. We are looking for a good start today and to continue that effort in all four quarters. Aaron Gill continued his great start to the year and appears to be only getting better with age. Ben Files played a really consistent game last week and controlled the half back line. Tom Bannister again, had a great game, along with all the back six who can hold their heads high for their performances so far this year. Aiden Ivanovic worked tirelessly in the ruck all day, having to take on the duties for most of the day, while Ben Townsend finished with 3 goals from limited opportunities. We will not be taking Berri lightly today as we had trouble last year with them and know they can lock down a team. Good luck to all other grades today and hope you enjoy the day. Cheers Cricket UNDER 18 - Tim Jackson Injuries and unavailability's have taken a massive toll on the senior playing group this season. The silver lining to this has been the opportunities it has created for a wide range of under 18s at senior level. Mitchell Jenke, Brodie Roesler, Roley Boon, Lachie Lellmann and Charlie Wiese have all played up this season and looked at home against the big boys. Their promotions have also created opportunities in the under 18s and many first year players have showed promising signs in the opening four rounds. We look forward to watching them continue to grow in stature as the year unfolds. McKenzie Bristow is a great example. He was unsure about playing at the start of the season but last week figured in the team’s best playing in defence. Great work Macka! Our best wishes go to Blake Bryant who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery last week. We welcome the Berri Demons today and always have a spirited battle with them. Our Dog Tales “thank you” this week goes to our medical professionals. Dr Paul Smith is never far away to assist with injured players on either side . We’ve had a few nasty injuries already this year and Smithy always makes time to provide an ‘on-the-spot’ assessment. We are very lucky to have such great support over many years. If he is not the most valuable resident in the town, I am not sure who is! We also are very fortunate to have Anthony Agostino back in town and assisting with fitness and physiotherapy on Monday nights. Ago has his son Jack featuring in West Adelaide’s league team and vying for State Under 18 honours, but commutes to Renmark each week to run his practice. These two gentlemen are ably backed up by our training staff, led by Helen Leckie who has embraced the challenge of filling Red’s shoes over the past two seasons. The boys also really appreciate the work Helen, Dan, Marina and Haley provide each week. Jacko UNDER 15 - Pete Morath Welcome back to all on our home turf again, following a couple of weeks on foreign territory! You just can’t underestimate the value of playing at home and how much you appreciate our supporters and what we have here after 2 weeks away. Pleasingly, the boys have continued to improve each week with solid work on the track and a disciplined approach to their footy. As a group we are making a concerted effort to improve as a team by concentrating on doing the simple things well, and providing support and voice for each other at all times. While the trip to Barmera produced our first win for the season, we were brought back down to earth against Loxton last week in a game that we let slip away from us. To their credit, the boys have remained positive and knuckled down at training this week in preparation for the clash with Berri today. Hopefully this week we can bounce back and put together 4 quarters of team footy and add another win on home soil! All the best to all teams! Cheers, Pete BRIGHTIES BABBLE - U13’s The kids have started the season well with 3 wins from four games. They are certainly playing an exciting game of football and are worth hopping up for early Saturday mornings and coming to have a look. Everyone in the team is getting involved and the skills on show are very pleasing; the use of handball is fantastic. With Berri this week (top of the ladder) there is certainly a challenge for the 13’s, one which I think they will take on full bore. Go Rovers! Cheers Darran Bright WESTIES UPDATE: Jack Agostino has had a fantastic start to the 2015 season. He made his league debut in our first two games and played quite well. Jack is also in the state under 18 side and will play in their final trial match this week before the championships start. Jack is a very exciting prospect and has had interest from a number of AFL clubs. Harrison Brown has been an outstanding contributor in the West Adelaide under 16 side. In a side that has struggled, Harrison has played some exciting football. His marking and kicking have been recognised as of a very high standard. Harrison has been asked to stay on and become part of the under 18 squad for the rest of season 2015. Harrison is a very exciting prospect for the Bloods. The following boys, all former junior players, are listed in West Adelaide's “Centre of Excellence” U18 squad: Adam Jackson, Sam Steed, Bailey Nisbett, Jordan Sarti, & Josh Albanese. This information was supplied by Andrew Marks, the Football Manager at West Adelaide. Congratulations!! 50 games, 9/5/15 - Ash Lindner & Todd Bennett 50 games, 23/5/15 - Matt Himsworth The Ladies Day committee would like to thank the following businesses for their generous support: Lucca Boutique, Such Salon, Ruston's Roses, Bank SA, Dimples, Nuts about Fruit, Priceline, Riverview Café, Andrew Ward & Renmark by Design. JOKE OF THE WEEK: Strongy walks into a bar with his dog. They get to drinking, and after a while the dog passes out. Soon Strongy gets up to leave and bartender Dunny says, ‘Hey, you can’t leave that lyin’ there.’ Strongy turns and says, ‘It’s not a lion, it’s my dog.’ WEB: rrfc.weebly.com
