RACE ACROSS AMERICA 2015 BE WITH US EVERY BREATH OF THE WAY… GALA DINNER IN AID OF ASTHMA UK THURSDAY 4TH JUNE 2015 THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE RUCK AND ROLLERS RUCK&ROLLERS THE RACE RAAM 2015… Race Across America (RAAM) is the world’s toughest cycling race and a tribute to human endurance. Starting on 20th June 2015, the race covers 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometres) from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland, crossing twelve US states and ascending over 55,000 metres. Make no mistake, this isn’t your regular charity ‘fun ride’. THE CAUSE Who we are helping and why… Each of our riders and teams will be raising money for Asthma UK; a British charity working to stop asthma attacks and cure asthma altogether. We are aiming to raise £500,000 for this important cause. • 1 in 11 people in the UK has asthma; 1.1 million of them are children. • Every ten seconds someone in the UK has a potentially life-threatening asthma attack and three people die every day. Two thirds of these deaths could be prevented. • The NHS spends around £1 billion a year treating and caring for people with asthma. The team Introducing the Ruck and Rollers… The Ruck and Rollers are entering two teams of eight riders, including eight international rugby players, to compete against the world’s best in the June 2015 RAAM event. The cyclists and crew must endure mountain and desert terrain, crossing the Rockies, the heartland of America, and the Appalachians.The riders are aiming to complete this gruelling race in under seven days. A Fine Art auctioneer and valuer since 2003, Addison has been a been a regular face on the charity auction circuit. His past TV appearances have included Channel 5’s prime time series, Storage, Flog the Lot and BBC’s Bargain Hunt as a valuer and auctioneer. Silent auction begins 7.50pm Q&A panel with international rugby players 8.20pm Dinner served 9.30pm Virtual Watt Cycle Race Challenge with international rugby players Place a bet on your favourite cyclists to complete 1000 meters on the Watt Bike first. Bets will be taken during the champagne reception and the starters. 9.50pm Why Asthma UK? international rugby players Eight renowned international rugby players make up half of the Ruck and Rollers team. With over 300 caps for 5 countries between them, they make a formidable addition. Meet some of the players in person at the Gala Dinner and give them your support for RAAM 2015.
