NEWS RELEASE Diane Akers, CEcD President (540) 443-2008 [email protected] www.blacksburgcheesefestival.com REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR VIRGINIA CHEESE FESTIVAL 5K RAT RACE Saturday, June 13, 2015 Blacksburg, Virginia, March 31, 2015– Registration is now open for the Virginia Cheese Festival 5K Rat Race on Saturday, June 13 from 9-11 a.m. Get your metabolism pumping at this run/walk family event to kick off a day indulging in cheese, wine and beer. The 5K will be held at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course, home of the Virginia Tech cross-country team. This all-grass course is located next to the pond behind the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Early-bird registration runs from now until May 15 and costs $25 for runners and $12 for walkers. Regular registration runs from May 16 through June 12 and costs $28 for runners and $15 for walkers. Day-of registration costs $30 for runners and $18 for walkers. Complete your registration here. Due to course restrictions we will be unable to accept runners with strollers or pets on leashes. We will have participants in four different age categories, with a male and female first and second place winner in each. There will also be an overall race winner. Fun and unique prizes will be awarded to each winner. To stay with the theme of the day, costumes will be encouraged and judged at the end of the race. So share your love of cheese and dress as a mouse, cheese wedge, or create something else fun and festive! We will be offering a prize to the best costume. Following the 5K, participants can enjoy the inaugural Virginia Cheese Festival at the Moss Arts Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be entirely dedicated to all things cheese. Educational presentations, fun activities for children and adults and of course a plethora of local and national artisan cheeses, cheese pairings and cheese related foods will make this event something to remember.
