ADULT AND REFERENCE DEPARTMENT
English Conversation Group
English language learners are invited to attend the English Conversation Group at the
Rutherford Public Library. The group will meet on Mondays from 10:00-11:30am and on
Thursdays from 1:00-2:30pm. The group provides a good opportunity to practice spoken
English in an informal setting. This is a free program and all are welcome. No registration is

Basic ESL Classes
The Rutherford Public Library has ongoing Basic English as a Second Language classes
taught by a certified ESL instructor. The classes are intended for beginner to intermediate level
students and will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30pm and
Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 – 11:30am. Students may register in person at

Knit, Read and Discuss
The Knit One, Read Two knitting/book discussion group at the Rutherford Public Library will
meet on Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30pm to discuss The Language of Flowers by Vanessa
Diffenbaugh. The meeting will be held in the Library Auditorium. All those who knit or crochet
are warmly invited to bring their needlework and join the discussion. Copies of the books are

Monday Evening Book Group
On Monday, April 13 at 6:30pm, the Monday Evening Book Group will meet to discuss
Scoop by Evelyn Waugh. Copies of the books are available at the Circulation Desk of the
Rutherford Public Library. The meeting will be held in the Glass Room on the main floor.
Daytime Reading Group
On Friday, April 24 at 1:30pm, the Daytime Reading Group will meet at the 55 Kip Center to
discuss Waiting by Ha Jin. Copies of the books are available at the Circulation Desk of the
Rutherford Public Library, 150 Park Avenue, Rutherford.
Film Screening
On Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30pm, The Friends of the Library of Rutherford will present a free
screening of The Hundred-Foot Journey. Forced to relocate from their native India, Hassan
and his family open an Indian restaurant in the south of France, igniting a bitter feud with
Madame Mallory, proprietor of the upscale French restaurant across the road. Starring Helen
Mirren, Om Puri, and Manish Dayal. The film will be shown in the Library Auditorium.
CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT
Drop-In Storytime
The Rutherford Public Library will host a morning and afternoon drop-in storytime program on
Wednesdays, April 1, 15, 22, and 29 from 10:30 – 11:00am and repeated from 2:00 –
2:30pm. The Wednesday afternoon session is geared specifically to children up to the age of
24 months. The story and rhyme portion of the afternoon session lasts 20 minutes and is
followed by a play/social time for approximately 15 minutes. Storytime will also be conducted in
the morning from 10:30-11:00am on Thursdays, April 2, 16, 23, and 30. All children from
infants to 5-year-olds and their caregivers are warmly invited to stop by for stories and fun.
Make some new friends and get ready for reading! No advance registration required.
Children’s Friday Afternoon Matinee
On Friday, April 10 from 3:45 – 5:30pm all children ages 4 and up are invited to a free
screening of the new movie The Book of Life at the Rutherford Public Library. Bring a snack
and a friend and have some afternoon fun to end the school week. No registration is required.
An adult caregiver must remain with any child under the age of seven for the duration of the

Preschool Craft
On Monday, April 13 at 3:45pm children ages 3, 4, and 5 are invited to make a Fruit Loop
rainbow at the Rutherford Public Library. Children are asked to have an adult accompany them
in order to assist with the making of the project. Registration is required. For more

Crafty Kids
On Friday, April 17 at 3:45pm children ages 6 and older are invited to create a butterfly craft at
the Rutherford Public Library. Registration is required. For more information, please call the

Music with Miss Fran
Miss Fran will present her preschool music program on Friday, April 24 from 11:15 – 11:45am
at the Rutherford Public Library. She will bring her guitar and play favorite familiar children’s
songs for dancing and fun. No advance registration is required. This program is funded by The
Friends of the Library of Rutherford.
Friday Family Fun Time
The Rutherford Public Library is excited to present Atka, the Amazing Eskimo Dog on Friday,
April 24 at 4:00pm. Atka is a dog who loves to do tricks and has appeared on Animal Planet’s
TV series “Dogs 101.” Atka is also a regular performer for the American Kennel Club’s
enormous annual event Meet the Breeds, held at NYC’s Javits Center. Additionally, Atka was
recently featured in a video created by the American Kennel Club. Atka, who is 10 years old,
will be joined in the show by 8 year old Nuka, and also Kayu, a puppy. Some audience
members will have the opportunity to assist with the tricks. This program is for children of all
ages and their caregivers, and no registration is required. Thank you to the Friends of the
Library of Rutherford for their generous funding of this program.
Paws to Read
The Rutherford Public Library welcomes back Rodney, a registered therapy dog, for the read to
a dog program. Rodney will be at the library with his owner on Monday, April 27 from 4:00 –
5:00pm. Children who are able to read a little bit and would like to be able to practice their
reading skills are invited to sign up for a 15 minute time slot with Rodney. He loves to listen to
stories and never complains if it is not a perfect reading. Parents may accompany their child
during their time with Rodney. Registration is required and should be done by contacting
