From the Principal Rincon Vista Middle School Teacher Requests for 2015-2016 Dear RVMS Families, Rincon Vista will be accepting parental requests for teaching teams for the 2015- 2016 school year during the period of May 7 - 13. Please read through this information carefully. • Requests must be made in writing to Assistant Principal Thomas Webb. This can be done via email at [email protected] or by dropping off a written request in the Rincon Vista front office. • Requests will be accepted beginning at 7:00 am on Thursday, May 7. Phone calls, voicemail messages, and verbal requests will not be accepted. • Requests are granted on a first-come, first-serve basis where possible, up to 60 requests per team. Please be aware that we will do our best to accommodate all requests. However, we also believe that it is best practice to balance our classrooms and teams. • As our state and district school budgets have not been finalized, staffing assignments may change. • Advanced Math is offered for all teaching teams. Placement is determined by student’s Benchmark percentile scores, teacher recommendation, and grades during the previous year of math (all A’s and B’s). We look forward to working with you and your student next year! Go Roadrunners! Lydia Crain RVMS Principal & RVMS%15(16%Planned%Teaching%Teams%(as%of%5/4/2015)% & 6th&Grade:&&& Roadrunner!! ! ! Luan Mueller Rincon Vista Middle School Music Specialist 879-3229 FROM THE REGISTRAR We would like to extend our best wishes to the families of our 8th graders as you begin your exciting high school journey. If your student will not be attending a high school in the Vail School District next year, please contact me so I can assist you in your transition. Before the last day of school, a withdrawal form will need to be signed. For your convenience, I will prepare a copy of the withdrawal form, final grades, etc. for you to take to your new school to assist in the registration process. If you will be moving to a new neighborhood in the Rincon Vista Middle School boundaries, please complete a change of address form so we can update the information in Powerschool. Please be aware that when a change of address is done, the Vail School District Policy requires two proofs of residency (eg., AZ drivers license with new address and utility bill with new address). Please see me for a complete list of acceptable Proofs of Residency. If you will be moving to another Vail school or out of district, please contact me to withdraw your student prior to the last day of school. Thank you for your assistance to ensure a smooth transition for your child’s next school year. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Tina Hilkemeyer, Registrar [email protected] 520-879-3213 Important Roadrunner Information FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE Attention parents/guardians: If your student(s) have medication in the health office, it MUST be picked up NO LATER than Wednesday May 20th by 3:30 P.M. The health office does not hold medications over the summer. This includes inhalers, EpiPens, prescription and all OTC medications. If medication is not picked up by this date, it will be destroyed. A letter will be mailed out the first week of May as a reminder. If your student will be attending summer session, and will need to take medication during that time, please contact me BEFORE May 21st to make arrangements. As a reminder, there is not a health aide on campus during summer session. Maria Riopel, RVMS Health Aide (520) 879-3210 or by e-mail [email protected] ATTENTION INCOMING 6TH GRADE PARENTS You may have received, or will receive a letter from your student’s elementary school regarding required immunizations for the upcoming school year. Don’t panic! This letter goes out to all 5th graders in the district even if we have received your student’s current immunizations. Below is the information you will need to know for your student(s) to be current for the 2015-2016 school year: • Any student who is 11 years of age and in the 6th grade or higher, MUST have 1 Meningococcal vaccine (some physician’s will give this vaccine at age 10, and that is okay). • Any student who has not received a DTaP, TD, or DT vaccine in the past 5 years must have a Tdap Booster. • If your student has NOT had the Chicken Pox disease OR the Varicella vaccine, they must have at least one Varicella vaccine on record. If your student has received these immunizations, please send me a copy of your student’s current immunization record the first week of school. My best advice is to get these immunizations done over the summer and out of the way. Starting in August 2015, I will be checking all students for missing immunizations. If we do not have record of the above immunizations or any others that may be missing, I will send a notice in the mail. Please keep in mind that these immunizations are a state requirement. Failure to provide proof by the given agreed deadline could result in your child being sent home until proof is received. Please feel free to contact me at 879-3210 or by email at [email protected] if you have any questions. CANC e r RINCON VI TA R e l a y f o r L i f e 2 0 1 5 RVMS Relay for Life will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 8:00 am - 10:00 am. To participate, students will work with their Advisory class to raise a minimum of $115. The deadline to reach the Advisory goal is Friday, May 8, 2015. When Advisory classes reach the $115 goal, all students in the class will be able to participate in Relay for Life. If an Advisory class doesnʼt reach the goal of $115, those students that have raised a minimum of $5 each will be able to participate. While Advisory classes are not required to raise additional money, we highly encourage it as all money goes to the American Cancer Society. The Advisory class AND individual students who raise the most money will receive a prize! Each Advisory must create a team name. There will be t-shirts available to purchase for $10 with the red design above (buy during lunches) or you may choose to dress to match your team name. For example, “The Ballers” might all wear basketball jerseys during the event or the “Pink Ladies” might all wear a pink shirt. Tshirts or special dress are not required to participate, but they do add to the fun! We also encourage each Advisory to create a special banner with their team name. Banners can be any size and made out of poster board, cardboard, or butcher paper. All Advisory banners will be hung along the relay course. During the event, at least 1 member of your team must be on the relay course at all times to symbolize that cancer never stops so neither will we. Participants will also be provided with a punch card. While team members are not on the relay track, you are encouraged to complete the activities on the punch card. During closing ceremonies, you can turn in completed punch cards and be placed in a drawing for special prizes! We are always looking for volunteers to help! If any parents or family members can volunteer, please contact Valerie Baird at [email protected]. The Tucson Fire Department will be here from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Students who will be participating in getting wet will be required to bring a change of clothes.
