We will watch videos and read primary sources from Colonial Boston in order to understand the beginnings of the American Revolution. Each day will have a theme to begin the night off in a positive way, and multiple, fun individual as well as team competitions will take place throughout the week. The clinic will be split according to grade, and skills and drills will be chosen accordingly. INTENSIVE WRESTLING CLINIC Grades 6-12 Instructors Olympic Gold Medalist Kenny Monday: Three-time Olympian, winning Gold in 1988 and Silver in 1992. Undefeated in his High School career, he was a 4-time state champion. He went on to be an All-American at Oklahoma State University, winning the NCAA title in 1984. He is also a 4-time USA Freestyle champion and a member of the National Wrestling Hall-of-Fame. After serving as a long-time assistant coach at OSU, he now trains mixed martial arts professionals around the country. Currently in the development phase, the program will send teams of students and a faculty leader to participate in weeklong volunteer activities in communities outside of Needham. The program will be offered the weeks of 7/6, 7/13, and 7/20, 6-hours a day. Make a difference by performing valuable services for the selected non-profit organizations, and earn one community service learning credit in the process. The faculty leader will escort the team members by public transportation to the volunteer site. They will also educate you on the mission of the organization and the cause it addresses. A fee will be charged to cover the cost of the faculty member. Participants will be responsible for the cost of public transportation. Be looking for an email from NCE in late March with details and a registration form. Information will also be included in the News from the Hill. SAT PREP CLASSES Needham Community Education will again offer summer sessions of the SAT Prep course developed and taught by Needham High School teachers. The teachers are experienced with SAT Prep and are known for their engaging, dynamic, and effective classes. For the summer SAT classes, 8 of the full 11 class sessions are scheduled, with the remaining 3 classes held in the fall, to provide preparation closer to the time of the SAT exam. Students can choose one of the three summer SAT classes: a Tuesday/Thursday evening class in July; a Wednesday morning class in July and August; and a Tuesday/Thursday evening class in August. You can join other community musicians, from semi-professional to college and high school students, to play marches, classics, and popular favorites. The rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 to 8:30pm, on June 25, 30 & July 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, and 21 at Needham High School. The Concert will be Thursday, July 23 at 7pm. Registrations received prior to 8 am on March 16 will not be processed until the end of the day on March 16. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early to avoid disappointment. • Tuition is due with registration. Needham Community Education accepts cash, checks or credit card (Master Card, Visa or Discover). Payment by credit card is recommended in order to facilitate any changes to the original registration. • Confirmations will be emailed once your registration has been processed. During the busy registration period, this may take a few days. If a class you have requested is full, you will be contacted immediately. Please check your confirmation carefully to make sure that the information is correct and to determine if your child was placed in their first or second choice class. • Withdrawals (minus a $30 registration fee) will be accepted until May 15, 2015. No tuition will be refunded or credited after May 15, 2015. • No changes to the original registration will be accepted prior to March 23. After March 23, changes will be accommodated when possible. A fee of $30 will be charged for each change to the original registration (plus or minus the difference in the class fees). • As stated on the registration form, registration and payment may be faxed or mailed to the Community Education Office. You may also register in person at the Community Education Office. The office is open Monday-Friday, between 8am and 4pm (in the summer, the office closes at 1:00 pm Fridays). Registration forms should NOT be submitted to your child’s school. • If the minimum number of students required for a class is not met, the class will be cancelled. Parents of all registrants in cancelled classes will be notified by (at the latest) June 3, and every effort will be made to place the child in another class of their choice. Tuition will be refunded if the class is cancelled by NCE. • Scholarship assistance is available to students receiving free or reduced lunch. Please call the Needham Community Education office for more information. • Summer Explorations programs are open to all students. If there are special considerations we should know about, please list them on the registration form. Please note that the Summer Explorations staff has no access to IEPs. The Summer Explorations nurse will follow up with all parents who have indicated medical concerns on this form to coordinate medical arrangements. If your child will require direct medical or support services, please register your child prior to April 17 to enable ample time to coordinate the required services.
