WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and David Perdue, R-Ga., today
joined a bipartisan group of senators in calling for offshore energy legislation that allows Georgia
and other Atlantic coastal states to share in the revenue from energy resources developed offshore.
In January, the U.S. Department of the Interior proposed opening the Mid- and South-Atlantic
regions to offshore oil and gas leasing. Senators Isakson and Perdue along with other senators from
the Southeast Atlantic delegation sent a letter to the leadership of the Senate Energy and Natural
Resources Committee requesting that their states, including Georgia, receive a portion of revenue
from offshore energy production, just as Gulf Coast states currently receive for oil and gas drilling
off their shores.

For?

Everything this nation once stood for is being turned on its head.
Free speech, religious expression, privacy, due process, bodily
integrity, the sanctity of human life, the sovereignty of the family,
individuality, the right to self-defense, protection against police
abuses, representative government, private property, human
rights—the very ideals that once made this nation great—have
become casualties of a politically correct, misguided, materialistic,
amoral, militaristic culture.
Indeed, I’m having a hard time reconciling the America I know and
love with the America being depicted in the daily news headlines,
where corruption, cronyism and abuse have taken precedence
over the rights of the citizenry and the rule of law.
What kind of country do we live in where it’s acceptable for police
to shoot unarmed citizens, for homeowners to be jailed for having
overgrown lawns (a Texas homeowner was actually sentenced
to 17 days in jail and fined $1700 for having an overgrown lawn),
for kids to be tasered and pepper sprayed for acting like kids at
school (many are left with health problems ranging from comas
and asthma to cardiac arrest), and for local governments to rake
in hefty profits under the guise of traffic safety (NPR reports that
police departments across the country continue to require quotas
for arrests and tickets, a practice that is illegal but in effect)?
Why should we Americans have to put up with the government
listening in on our phone calls, spying on our emails, subjecting
us to roadside strip searches, and generally holding our freedoms
hostage in exchange for some phantom promises of security?
As I document in my new book Battlefield America: The War on
the American People, it doesn’t matter where you live—big city
or small town—it’s the same scenario being played out over and
over again in which government agents ride roughshod over the
rights of the citizenry. It doesn’t matter how much money you
make, what politics you subscribe to, or what God you worship:
we are all potential suspects, terrorists and lawbreakers in the
eyes of the government. The Boston tea party happened On the
night of December 16, 1773. More than 200 years later, we are
once again suffering under a long train of abuses and usurpations.
What Americans today must decide is how committed they are to
the cause of freedom and how far they’re willing to go to restore
what has been lost.
What are we waiting for, indeed?

Following the attack, the lack of recognition for those
killed and wounded during Hasan’s rampage angered
some of the victims and their families. The Army’s
initial refusal to call the Fort Hood attack international
terrorism led Congress to include a provision in the
2015 National Defense Authorization Act that required
the Department of Defense to review the Fort Hood
case for Purple Heart recipients.

it can be authorized in other situations including
international terrorist attacks against the United
States. The Defense of Freedom medal is the civilian
equivalent to the Purple Heart.
At least one survivor told Fox News ahead of the
ceremony that the Army has so far denied him any

In February, the Army, under heavy political pressure
by Texas lawmakers, cleared the way for the military
and civilian distinctions after the shooting was
declared an act of international terrorism and not
workplace violence.
Nearly 50 survivors lined up at the ceremony held at
Fort Hood on Friday, and all were given either a Purple
Heart or Defense of Freedom medal for their injuries.
The ceremony was years in the making, as the U.S.
government initially described the attack as mere
workplace violence, and not terrorism.
But the medal, while long-sought, may be symbolic.

Waiting, at best, is
difficult. Giving up,
however, can be
disastrous.
We often hear the
warning, “Don’t ever
pray for patience. God
may take you at your word and hide from you
for a long, long time.” Whether or not we pray
for patience, we often end up waiting on God
for a long, long time. It is easy to convince
ourselves that “I’ve waited long enough. It’s
time for me to strike out on my own. God will
eventually catch up with me.”
“We wait in hope for the Lord,” said David,
“He is our help and shield!” Why would a king
with armies and wise men, property and power
advise people to wait? Why not, as a warrior,
“move into combat?”
From his past David could predict his future.
First, the God who created all things, is
above all things, sees all things, controls all
things will, when it is time, come and “do His
thing.” David had experienced God at work
in his life and certainly came to believe in
God’s presence and power in his life. So, he
reassures us and reminds us that He “is now
and will be in the future our helper and our
shield.”
As our helper, He will, at the appropriate
time, deliver us. We may not know when or
understand what method of deliverance He will
use, but we do know that He will deliver those
who trust in Him. We have His word because it
is in His Word. However, until He does, we are
reminded that He is our shield - the One who
will defend us. Our hope is in His hands.
