Posthumanism and new materialism
Posthumanismandnewmaterialismasresearchapproachhavebeenseminalinacademiafor
sometime.
Theyalreadymadeanimpactinvariousfieldsofinterest,e.g.artresearch,designresearch,
fashionresearchandcinemaresearch;initiallytheyemergedfromtheculturalstudieswhere
historicalstudieswerechallengedbyfeminismandcriticalstudies.
Inartisticresearchposthumanismhasquestionedtheoriesofcreativityandhumanconditionas
thesourceofartandartsignificance,meaningmakingandethics.Inpractice,suchachallenge
attemptstorelocateaesthetics,putitbacktosensesandtotheinteractionwithnaturalworld.
ScholarsonNewmaterialismhaveshownacriticalstancetowardthedualistviewof
material/immaterialandelaboratedtheconceptandpracticeofmaterializationasapossible
startingpointtoincludesubjection,embodimentandthinkingasthesourcesofartisticresearch.
TheSummerSchoolwillofferachanceforreflectingonhowposthumanismandnewmaterialism
canprovidenovelwaysofconceptualizingandinvestigatingnotionsofsubjectivity,power,
politicalagency,spirituality,materialityandethics.
Weinvitedoctoralcandidatesandscholarstoprovideinsightsfromtheirresearch.
