CU Succeed recently held a
competition and asked teens
to submit plans for business
ideas they wanted to pursue.
Congratulations to our first
prize winner, Briana Gallagher.
She will receive $250 for her
innovative business plan.
When faced with creating a
business idea, Briana looked
around for needs in her
community.
What she found were seniors
who needed people to run
errands.
Because there are more than
40 million senior citizens in
the U.S. alone (with that
number expected to double
by 2030), she knew she had
stumbled upon a good idea.
That’s when she decided to
create a business plan for
Errand Angels Senior Services,
where workers would provide
errand and personal service
assistance to seniors.
“I didn’t expect to win, but it
was a nice surprise. Really, I
was trying to create something
that did good. And it is always
good to help the elderly.
I could probably start this
company with little money,”
Briana said. “I was working for
a company that does theater
for seniors when I stumbled
upon the idea.”
Briana plans to build her
business based on price,
exceptional customer service,
and what she calls durability.
With durability, she says that
relationships with seniors will
bring ongoing business
and demand.

Business is all about the
bottom line, and Briana knows
it. She took the initiative and
figured out all of her costs,
including liability insurance, gas,
and more: “After my expenses,
I estimate I can make up to
$4,000 a month before taxes.
That’s $36,000 a year if
I work full time.”
