PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives
of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and
obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these
courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of
holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you.
Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who,
having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above
all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with
you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen
SUNDAY: 15 MARCH: THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
From the Pastor
“My heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is
that they may be saved.” Romans 10:1
Mes chers amis,
We’ve already arrived at the Fourth Sunday
of Lent. Traditionally, this Sunday is rather
unique; like the Third Sunday of the Season
of Advent (“Gaudete Sunday”), the Fourth
Sunday of Lent is a break in an otherwise
penitential season. The vestments for this day
are traditonally rose, as they are on Gaudete
Sunday in Advent, and flowers may adorn the
Altar. This day is called “Laetare Sunday”, and
takes its name from the opening words of the
Mass, the Introit’s “Laetare, Jerusalem”:?
mihi: in domum Domini ibimus.
Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and come together all
you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that
have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and
be filled from the breasts of your consolation.
(Psalm) I rejoiced at the things that were said
to me: we shall go into the house of the Lord.
According to very ancient Roman tradition,
serious penance and fasting did not begin
until Monday of the third week before
Easter (the day after this Sunday). Thus,
Laetare was the last day before the period
of strict discipline. It was not until later that
Lent was lengthened to forty days, making
a Tuesday into “Mardi Gras” literally in
French “Fat Tuesday”, the day people had
to use up the animal fats in their houses.
Laetare is therefore a refreshment stop on
the pilgrimage toward Easter: think of water
stations along the route of a Marathon
race. Together with the joy of approaching
Easter, this Sunday is about the Heavenly
Jerusalem we long for, which is anticipated
in the Church and the Most Holy Eucharist.
Moses is also an important figure in today’s
Mass. He obtained manna from God for the
People in the wilderness on their journey to
the Promised Land. Eucharist and journey.
Joy and Jerusalem.
May Our Lady help us to prepare well for the
coming days of Holy Week and the Sacred
Triduum!
Dans le Sacré Cœur du Christ,
Fr. Vidrine

PLENARY INDULGENCE DURING THE YEAR
OF CONSECRATED LIFE!
On the occasion of this special Year, Pope Francis has conceded
plenary indulgences, under the customary conditions:
the individual be in the state of grace by the completion of the
acts, have complete detachment from sin, and pray for the
Pope’s intentions. The person must also sacramentally confess
their sins and receive Communion, up to about twenty days
before or after the indulgenced act.
Returned to Christ through death, our prayers
and sincere condolences are offered to the
families of: Anna Mae Bourque, Joseph Elix
Fontenot Jr., and Bernita Soileau.
Cemetery Note: Brick Graves
Our cemetery has several old brick graves that are in
serious need of maintenance in order to preserve them.
We are asking parishioners to contact the parish office
at 363-2989 if they know who these graves belong to, or
if they know a means of contacting the next of kin. Over
time, the markers on these graves have become illegible
or have been removed.
