May 3, 2015 St. Alphonsus Church & School Fifth Sunday of Easter Campus Update: Good Stewards of Our Property With the help of various folks here at the parish, I have begun to evaluate the entire health and condition of our parish life -- from finances, to ministries, to educational programs, to property and plant. Our Pastoral and Finance Councils have gathered twice since my arrival, generating very positive conversations, ideas and suggestions regarding the overall health and future of our parish. The School Advisory Council has also met twice to discuss and plan for our school’s future. Updates on all of the meetings can be found in our E-News and on our website. As we continue to identify and prioritize what needs to be taken care of first, and what we would like to do later, listed below is an update on jobs/projects that have already been completed around campus: The entrance doors to the “Old Gym” now close and lock. The drain outside of the school’s 8th grade classrooms is now clear and working properly (prior to this, during heavy to moderate rainfall, water would puddle to the point of entering the classrooms through the windows). The railing around the mausoleum is now sturdy; cement patchwork has been completed, as well as repairs to some of the mausoleum paneling. Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors have been installed in the rectory offices (prior to this, the fire alarm system for the entire building was inoperable). The front pews on both sides of the church are now firmly secured to the floor. The banister leading to the choir loft on the Old Side has been firmly secured. In good faith, we will continue to provide the leadership necessary and make the best possible decisions regarding the life of our parish. As I grow in my relationships with all of you, I cannot thank you enough for your love of, and concern for, this faith community, which indeed we should consider our spiritual home. Know that I keep all of you in my prayers daily. Fr. Kevin Mass Schedule for Ascension Thursday Vigil Mass, May 13 6:30 p.m. Ascension Thursday, May 14 7 a.m. 9 a.m. – All-School Mass.
