[Christ Jesus] humbled himself,

— Philippians 2:8
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
A Message from our Pastor
Dear Friends,
We live in a world of opposites...
Night and day...
Light and dark...
Good and evil...
Palms and passion!
Today is the beginning of Holy Week (the most important week in the
year for Christians). It begins with Palm Sunday. We celebrate the day when
Jesus triumphantly rides into Jerusalem to the praise of all His disciples. The
crowd cries out "Hosanna" and pulls palms off the trees to wave in enthusiasm.
However, this Sunday is also called Passion Sunday. Those crowds that
praised Jesus like a rock star on Sunday of Holy Week, are the same crowds that
called for His crucifixion several days later.
The palms and the passion show how fickle people (including us) are.
We get caught up in the latest moment. How easily we change our attitudes
based upon the latest fad or trend. We change our views based upon something
we see on the news or through some gossip that we heard. Many times our
principles and beliefs last only as long as the next breath we take.
Perhaps we can learn something from Jesus during this Holy Week. No
matter if the crowds praised Him or spat on Him, He still remained true to what
He was and what was important to Him. He was willing to do the right thing
regardless of the cost!
HOLY WEEK...
As I mentioned above, we celebrate the most important week of the
year. This week we celebrate the Institution of the Eucharist (Holy Thursday),
the Passion and death of Jesus (Good Friday), and keep vigil at the tomb for His
resurrection (Holy Saturday). These three days are referred to as the Triduum
(three days). The Church celebrates these three days as one continuous liturgy.
That is the reason that we begin with the sign of the cross at Holy Thursday Mass
and don't do it again till the end of the Easter Vigil.
After Holy Thursday Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is carried to the
chapel to commemorate the time that Jesus spent in the Garden of Gethsemane.
We are called to spend that time with Him. You are all invited to come and go
and spend some time in prayer. The Church will be open till midnight after Holy
Thursday Mass.
Good Friday is the one day of the year when Mass is not celebrated. It
is the day of Jesus' death and we mark it by celebrating His Passion and
venerating His cross. When we depart the service, we depart in silence.
The Easter Vigil… Tradition holds that Jesus rose from the dead on
Holy Saturday night. The service begins with the blessing of the Easter fire.
Then the fire is brought in to illuminate the Church as we hear the stories of
salvation from the Old Testament. Then the Church gives birth as new members
join the Church in Baptism and Confirmation. Finally we celebrate the Liturgy
of the Eucharist and receive
the resurrected Christ in the
Eucharist.
I pray that you take
advantage of this Holy Week
by attending as many of
these services as possible. I
pray that this week will draw
you closer in your
relationship with God!
Happy Holy Week,
Fr. Howard

33 Days to Morning Glory: Preparation for Marian Consecration
(April 8 – May 13, 2015)
Want to transform your work, your marriage, your family and your life, but don’t
have time?
Looking for the quickest, surest and easiest way to holiness, but don’t know
where to begin? In our hectic day and time, Saint John Paul II and Blessed
Mother Teresa knew that the quickest way to be transformed into a saint is
through a relationship with our Blessed Mother Mary.
Parish Announcements
Join us on April 8, 2015 as we begin a 33-day preparation for Marian
Consecration, culminating on May 13, 2015, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
For 6 weeks, we’ll read about and reflect on 4 Marian giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe,
Blessed Mother Teresa and St. John Paul II. They will teach us the secrets to drawing closer to the Heart of
Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our weekly meetings, we’ll share our insights with a small group and
watch a 30 minute video. The video by popular author and speaker, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, brings our
individual reflections and group experience into a clear and live-able focus.
Even if you have already made this Consecration, St. Louis de Montfort recommends repeating the 33-day
preparation and renewing your Consecration every year!
Who:
Women, men, teens, couples, families, small groups, committees…
in other words, everybody!
What: Preparation for Marian Consecration, 6 weekly meetings
When: Wednesday mornings – 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday evenings – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Where: School Meeting Room 2
Dates: April 8 – May 13
What do I need: You will need to purchase the materials by ordering the Participant Packet with Retreat
Book for 33 Days to Morning Glory at allheartsafire.org/33days/promoting.php

Week #8 - Understanding the Crusades
Dr. Thomas Madden is a professor of
History at St. Louis University and has
appeared in such venues as the New York
Times, Washington Post, Wall Street

eye-opening presentation, Dr. Madden
debunks popular myths surrounding the
crusades and shows us how the different
misconceptions regarding the crusades have fed in the
tension between the East and the West.

A Note from Sandy Dunn
It’s that time of year again – VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! Imagine what
it was like to live and work in the dusty town of Nazareth, just as Jesus was
beginning His ministry around Galilee. You’d hear whispering about Mary’s
son, Jesus – the local carpenter’s kid who says he’s the Son of God. Maybe the
boy Jesus even had dinner at your house or played tag with your kids. As you
tend your sheep or bake your bread, perhaps you secretly wonder if it’s really
possible that Jesus – the boy down the street – could be the Messiah.
Which of the tribes of Israel will you be part of – Zebulun, Asher, Joseph, Judah or even Levi?
You’ll hear straight from Mary all about her son and the incredible things that happened to her with
Jesus.
