25% conversion of current Little Angels four-­‐ year-­‐olds to K-­‐Prep or Kindergarten at St. Michael Catholic School.

Over the next few weeks I will like to update our community on where we are with achieving these goals. Let’s begin with our Technology goal. I am excited and pleased to be able to share with you St. Michael Catholic School is the proud owner of the WeatherBug, by Earth Networks. Installed over spring break, it is up and running, located on top of the middle school building. Not only can students see the data; the community can too by downloading the application on ones phone and/or desktop. (Look for the WeatherBug App. for Prior Lake, MN 55372) Once downloaded, you will have access to real time weather data from Prior Lake, including the hourly forecast, radar and a beautiful view of St. Michael Catholic Church from our camera. Take a look for the Spark portion of the application, as it allows you to know when dangerous weather is headed to Prior Lake. It was important to the school board to be able to give back to our community, as the Prior Lake community embraces us and supports us in so many ways. With the cost being $16,000, the ability to purchase the WeatherBug seemed like a dream to us. We decided we would reach out to our own St. Michael Catholic School families to see if God may have placed it on their heart to get involved Zinancial in this project. God supplied us with Desiree Barrientez, a mother of two St. Michael students. Desiree took it upon herself, along with some of her friends and family to obtain the funds needed for our WeatherBug. I cannot thank Ms. Barrientez enough for believing in our project and working hard on obtaining the funds.
You may be saying to yourself, “This is nice but what is the school going to use it for that will enhance and increase learning?” The WeatherBug program comes with technology rich materials for our preschool through eighth grade classrooms. We are always looking for more ways to incorporate more E-­‐STEM (Environmental Education, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities into our curriculum. Absentee Line: Mr. Sitek, our middle school science teacher, has already introduced the weather tracker to his 6th – 8th 952-447-2230 grade students. Call anytime your
child is going to As one middle school student stated to me in the breezeway while admiring the weather monitor, “This is be tardy or
so cool. We will be able to make our own weather forecast, just like a meteorologist, utilizing the absent.
WeatherBug programs, our own data, and the green screens and smart boards we already have here at St. nnn
Mikes. I can’t wait!”
This summer, teachers will learn the programs in order to incorporate them into their science, math and social studies class. Weather patterns can be looked at in science, and data collection in math while the real-­‐life interplay of our community and weather can be studied in our social studies classes. This is much more powerful than students just seeing those numbers in a textbook!

Holy Family is still accepting applications for enrollment and registration for classes for incoming
freshmen. Some elective options do fill and close in early spring. Please contact Director of

[email protected] to schedule a time to complete the registration process.
A completed tuition contract and the $100 class registration fee are required to confirm course
selections. The tuition contract does not go into effect until July 1, 2015.
Summer Experience day camps at Holy Angels provide learning and fun
The Academy of Holy Angels (6600 Nicollet Avenue South, Richfield) has released its Summer Experience
day camp schedule for 2015. Most camps are scheduled for the second half of June.
This year’s camps include basketball, art, leadership and service, baseball, theater, tennis, computer
animation, dance, and more. With more than 40 camps designed for students from grade two through grade
nine, there are plenty of opportunities for all. Most are one-week, half-day camps, and some are scheduled
so that students can register for one camp in the morning and another in the afternoon.
“AHA is committed to providing excellent camps that are educational, fun and safe for kids and affordable for
parents,” says AHA Admissions Director Jesse Foley. “Most are run by AHA head coaches and teachers and
serve as an excellent way for them to introduce their programs to younger students. Last year more than 50
AHA high school students volunteered for Summer Experience, and many of them had been campers
themselves.”
