Upon arrival to Adventures Plus, all students will line up and be checked in to the program individually. (Please reinforce this important procedure with your child/
ren.)

Seventh Grade Language Arts News
They spent much of quarter 3 focusing on Migrant Literature, reading one of three novels independently or in
small groups: Breaking Through, by Francisco Jiménez, Children of the River, by Linda Crew, and Before We Were
Free, by Julia Alverez. All three novels featured protagonists who immigrated to America for various reasons and
obstacles they faced once they arrived. Students researched the home country in each novel to gain deeper
understanding about cultural, religious, and language differences between the main character's homeland and the
United States. Students then summarized or paraphrased research content on a variety of topics and cited their
research using MLA citation. To end the unit, students are currently using parenthetical citations from the novels to
support their claims in an argument essay centered on characterization, conflict, and features of migrant literature.

Summer Stretch 2015
Lately, do you catch yourself daydreaming about the exhilarating feeling of summer fun? Although it may seem like a distant dream, summer is fast approaching and it is time to start planning your summer adventures. Join us on Wednesdays this summer as we put our faith into action by serving our community all while having fun with friends. Spend your mornings in faith and service, and your afternoons in recreation! Summer Stretch invites any and all students entering grades 6-‐8 in Fall 2015 to become Stretchers and those entering 9th grade or older to become Summer Stretch Leaders. Holy Family is still accepting applications for enrollment and registration for classes for incoming
freshmen. Some elective options do fill and close in early spring. Please contact Director of
Admissions Rob Bell at [email protected] or Associate Director of Admissions, Laura Podergois, at
[email protected] to schedule a time to complete the registration process.
A completed tuition contract and the $100 class registration fee are required to confirm course
selections. The tuition contract does not go into effect until July 1, 2015.
Summer Experience day camps at Holy Angels provide learning and fun
The Academy of Holy Angels (6600 Nicollet Avenue South, Richfield) has released its Summer Experience
day camp schedule for 2015. Most camps are scheduled for the second half of June.
This year’s camps include basketball, art, leadership and service, baseball, theater, tennis, computer
animation, dance, and more. With more than 40 camps designed for students from grade two through grade
nine, there are plenty of opportunities for all. Most are one-week, half-day camps, and some are scheduled
so that students can register for one camp in the morning and another in the afternoon.
“AHA is committed to providing excellent camps that are educational, fun and safe for kids and affordable for
parents,” says AHA Admissions Director Jesse Foley. “Most are run by AHA head coaches and teachers and
serve as an excellent way for them to introduce their programs to younger students. Last year more than 50
AHA high school students volunteered for Summer Experience, and many of them had been campers
themselves.”
