May, the Month of Mary, is a busy one for our
school. First Communion, Confirmation, and May
Crowning highlight the activities. We are blessed to be able to
share the sacraments and rich traditions of our Faith with our
students. Combined with daily prayer and religion class and
weekly Mass; it makes for a fulfilling Catholic experience for
our students. We appreciate the support of the entire parish as
we form the next generation of Catholics. We had a wonderful
“Donuts with Dad” last week: a cafeteria full of students with
their dads, step-dads, granddads and uncles. Very inspiring! We
celebrate “Muffins with Mom” on Tuesday, May 5th. Please
join us for Mass, Friday at 8:30—you are running out of
opportunities!

Anointing of the Sick Healing Mass will
be held on Saturday,
May 23rd at 10:30 AM at
Marsh Drive Church.
Throughout the gospels, the sick were a
primary concern of Jesus, a basis for this sacrament. In this
sacrament, we ask for and experience God’s compassion for
those who suffer some form of serious illness and those who are
at the point of death. In the anointing and laying on of hands,
God’s healing power is called upon those whose body and spirit
are broken. Healing may come physically, but God will always
provide spiritual strength and consolation to endure even to the
point of death. Whether administered individually or
communally, the community is called to offer prayers and
support to those in need of our love and care.
This Mass and Anointing is for any Catholic, of any age, who
suffers from illness of mind or body. Sometimes individuals are
anointed for conditions that are chronic and persistent such as
diabetes, back pain, addictions or mental health concerns. The
priest will use oil blessed at the Chrism Mass on Monday of
Holy Week and anoint the recipient on the forehead and on the
palms of their hands. The effects are to include not only spiritual
healing, but also the gifts of hope, endurance and physical health
according to God’s will. This Mass is only celebrated once a year
at Saint Patrick Church, plan now to attend and receive healing
grace from this liturgy.
