External Post Tensioning With Composite
Sanrachana Group has installed in excess of 10 lacs sq. ft. of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) material
on more than 1000 structural strengthening projects. As a leader and innovator in structural
strengthening and upgrades, we have also developed different standalone structural composite profiles.
Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites are thin laminates that are externally bonded to structural
elements using an epoxy adhesive to increase their load-carrying capacity. FRP systems are made of
high strength fibers (such as glass, carbon or steel) embedded in a resin matrix in the form of fabric
sheets and pre-cured bars, rods or plates. FRP materials are lightweight, durable and non-corrosive and
can be installed quickly, making them one of the most Cost-effective strengthening solutions.
The Post tensioned CFRP Laminate method consists of a tension laminate, base plates,
and intermediate anchoring devices. The tension plate is a carbon fiber reinforced polymer
(CFRP) strip that has anchoring devices at both ends. Base plates are steel frames which
are attached to the concrete surface for anchoring the tension plate and for holding the
specially modified hydraulic jack. Intermediate anchoring devices are simple stainless steel
plates and anchor bolt. The foremost advantage of this method is by applying prestress
to the concrete member, it is effective in increasing not only the live load but also the dead
load capacity of the member. Therefore, crack widths caused by dead load can be decreased.
Second advantage is that by introducing a prestress, a redundant force is introduced so the
tensile stress on structure is decreased. The distribution of bending moment is schematically
shown in Figure below.

Strengthening Of Data Centre
Seismic Retrofitting
Problem:
As per Seismic map of India, more than half of the country’s population lives in moderate
to very severe regions, where high-magnitude earthquake can occur. The buildings designed
as per seismic design requirements survive earthquake with lesser structural damages and
lesser causalities. Buildings of high importance and public gatherings such as schools,
colleges, hospitals, telephone services, railways, airports, bridges, administrative office,
power plants shopping malls etc. have to be designed as per seismic design requirement.
Most of the old structures are either not designed for seismic forces or are designed as per
old codes. It is essential to upgrade these structures to improve its performance in seismic
activity. Sanrachana helps you in designing optimal retrofit strategy for your structure by
using various state of the art analysis techniques such as push over analysis of structures
and executing on site job in designed and planned manner.
Certain areas in modern commercial premises like Banks, IT parks, offices etc have to accommodate
additional load of data center, UPS and Battery rooms. RCC floors and RCC flat slabs of commercial
floors are normally not designed for such additional load. Thus, strengthening of these floors becomes
very critical for structural safety and stability point of view. Sanrachana offers a wide range of solutions
to strengthen data centre floor without compromising on aesthetics of interiors.
Solution & System
Externally bonded FRP composites can be effectively used to take care of additional load. Posttensioned carbon fiber laminates provides active reinforcement for additional impose loads. Structural
steel fabrication can be used to shorten the span.
Testing and Validation
Sanrachana has developed 'Quick Load Test' to insure that strengthened floor is capable of carrying

Improving Performance Of Concrete

Concrete is a very critical construction component. Thus, it is important to ensure quality
of concrete to its expected performance levels. Sometimes because of many uncontrollable
parameters concrete does not live upto its design performance. We provide specialized
solutions for this problem, thus avoiding laborious & time consuming work of dismantling
and recasting of deficient concrete section.
Techniques:
Section Enlargement and Bonded Overlays are used to improve strength, increase stiffness or reduce
crack widths at service levels. Additional concrete added to an existing structural member, that may
also incorporate additional reinforcement.

Span Shortening can reduce the bending and shear forces on over stressed beams, joists and slabs.
Typically, structural steel members and cast-in-place reinforced concrete members are used for span
shortening applications.

Externally Bonded Steel Shapes are attached to existing concrete surfaces to add strength and
stiffness to deficient members. External steel shapes include plates, channels, angles or built-up members.
•Injection of very low viscosity Monomer Resins: Very low viscosity monomer grouted under
pressure, improves the micro structure of concrete. Fill the micro cracks and voids in
concrete, making it homogeneous and resilient . This can be tested by conducting pre
and post NDT tests on concrete.

•Wrapping concrete element by Fiber reinforced composites: External confinement by high
strength carbon or glass fiber wrap improves over all performance of concrete like strength,
stiffness and ductility. Depending on requirements; we can select different fiber materials,
numbers of overlays and its orientation.
•Micro Jacketing by Near Surface Reinforcement: By providing near surface reinforcement
in concrete in form of steel or FRP rods, overall mechanical performance of RCC element
can be improved without compromising on size of RCC element in case of deficiencies.
•Grouting of bipolar corrosion inhibitor: Grouting of bipolar penetrating type corrosion
inhibitor helps in reducing corrosion current for RCC structure. This can be carried out
without exposing steel reinforcement inside the concrete. Because of its penetrating
characteristics, it penetrates through concrete and protects steel reinforcement inside it.

Masonry, Timber And Heritage Structures
Load Testing And Strength Evaluation
It is important to not only restore facades of heritage building but to restore capacity of its load bearing
elements. In old buildings, load bearing walls are made up of stone or brick masonry. Floor system is
made of timber joist. The strength of these load bearing elements deteriorates over time and may
lead to collapse of structure. Sanrachana provides solutions for such strengthening issues by using
different techniques without compromising on aesthetics.
Sanrachana provides full scale load testing services. This includes conventional load testing
and non-destructive pre and post testing techniques to evaluate performance of structural
elements. Key information such as loads, strains and deformations are obtained during the
testing and are used to determine response parameters that are key to structural assessment.
Methods likes polymeric cement grout and epoxy resin with moderate pressure can be effectively
used to restore Stone and brick masonry walls. Seismic retrofitting of masonry building can be effectively
carried out by providing FRP wraps and laminate to avoid out of plane bending. Timber joist can be
effectively strengthened in shear as well as flexure by using carbon or glass fiber wraps and laminates.

Seismic Retrofitting Of ESI Hospital Building, Kolkata
Repairs Of RCC Tower Foundations On
Mumbai Coast Line
Because of alternate drying and wetting due to sea water, steel reinforcement in RC
foundation was corroded to a great extent. This led to collapse of tower structure. Repairs
were undertaken using conventional polymer mortar followed by application of carbon
fiber wraps and laminate to compensate for loss of reinforcement and to ensure durability
of repair works.

the site where there was no electricity, no water and no access to roads. We are monitoring the

This was an old RCC hospital building. It was decided to upgrade the hospital
structure as per the requirement of current seismic code. Exhaustive retrofitting work
was carried out by conventional RCC jacketing and FRP wrapping. Corrosion mitigation
was carried out by grouting of Bi-polar penetrating type corrosion inhibitor. Job was
carried out in planned manner by taking all precautions without shifting patients out
side hospital.

Structural Retrofitting Of Aircel National Data Centre
Building, Gurgaon
15 year old G+3 RCC structure was to be used as data centre. Floor slabs, columns and beams were
strengthened to carry the floor load of 1000 Kg per Sq. mt. RCC Frame was also upgraded up to current
seismic code requirement. Retrofitting was carried out by conventional footing, column and beam
jacketing. Beam column joints and slab were wrapped by Glass fiber and post tensioned carbon laminates.
The project was completed in 60 days period.

Repairs To RCC Cooling Tower, NTCP Faridabad,
Exhaustive patch repairs were carried out on damaged portion of RCC cooling tower.
Protective treatments were done on exposed steel. Surface were build using epoxy-latex
mortar, followed by application of glass fiber wraps in select areas.

Major Shut Down Repairs For Fertilizer
Factory, Jalgaon
RCC trusses and purlines of fertilizer plant were badly corroded. Falling chunks of concrete from height
created safety hazards for the workers. RCC trusses were restored by chipping loose concrete,
protective coating to reinforcement, section building by micro concrete and polymer modified mortar
followed by wrapping of bi-directional glass fiber sheet. RCC trusess were restored in shutdown
period of 21 days.
Strengthening Of Runway Bridge, Mumbai
30 year old bridge over runway required strengthening for additional aircraft loads.
Strengthening was achieved by strengthening the elements first by pressure grouting of
low viscosity epoxy resins, followed by application of carbon fiber laminates from bottom
and carbon wraps in shear zone. Work was completed within a period of 2 months.

Improving Performance Of Concrete At
Commercial Complex, Bengaluru
Strengthening Of Fire Damaged
Cold Storage Structure, Navi Mumbai
After exhaustive testing by internal quality assurance team, it was decided to improve the performance
of existing concrete in select areas. This was done by wrapping select RCC element by carbon fiber
wrapping. In few locations it was done by conventional Jacketing or steel plate bonding
RCC structure was exposed to higher temperature for considerable time. This caused micro
cracking and spalling in concrete. Excessive deflections were also observed in a few
locations. Repairing was carried out by grouting low viscosity monomers to seal the micro
cracks and improving the micro structure of concrete. Spalled portions were treated by
polymer modified mortar. Additional steel support was introduced to control the deflection.

for G+14 Building. Substructural RCC elements were strengthened using micro concrete
jacketing to take care of this additional future load. Intermediate flat slab on required floors
were upgraded to carry load of 1500 Kg/sq.mt for UPS and battery room requirement

RCC structure of main dome was in bad condition because of honeycombing. Entire
RCC structure was grouted with low viscosity monomer. This was followed by coating
of light weight glass fiber sheet and high build epoxy coating.
