Rolling out the NBN
After campaigning over such
a long period for better
broadband, I am so excited
that some 34,000 premises
across Corangamite have been
included in the first 18-month
rollout plan for connection
to the National Broadband
Network.
The NBN build will commence
across many parts of the
Bellarine, Surf Coast and
Golden Plains as well as in
Colac and Apollo Bay over the
next 18 months, delivering
superfast speeds. This is on
top of the fixed wireless rollout
we announced earlier which
will service another 5000
premises in parts of the Colac
Otway and Golden Plains
regions.
As a strong local voice for
Corangamite, every community
counts. Consistent with our
policy, it is wonderful to see
so many under-served areas
being prioritised. I am also
fighting tooth and nail for
the NBN to be fast tracked
across the rest of Corangamite,
including Belmont, Highton,
Grovedale and Waurn Ponds.

Surf life saving grants
help fund vital equipment
I was delighted to announce that each of
Corangamite’s 12 surf life saving clubs will receive
$25,000 over five years under our Beach Safety
Equipment Fund. These grants:
· help clubs purchase life saving equipment;
· support the wonderful work of our volunteer surf
life savers; and
With Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club
members on patrol.
Congratulations to our surf life saving clubs for the
wonderful work they do.
Fighting for fairer fuel deal in Colac and Lorne
My fight for fairer fuel prices received a
boost when I arranged for local campaigners
from Colac to meet with Professor Ian
Harper who is chairing our government's
review of competition policy. It was a great
opportunity to argue for better laws to stop
fuel companies gouging country motorists.
With Sacred Heart Primary School pupils
Tanisha Clarke, Joseph O'Farrell and
Principal Jack Lenaghan.
I have also taken on BP over its decision to
stop selling LPG in Lorne. The Lorne service
station even ran out of fuel at one stage. BP
must start putting the Lorne community first
and reverse this terrible decision.
Funding boost
for Colac school
Strong turnout at Anglesea meeting
There is wonderful news for Colac's
Sacred Heart Primary School. I was very
pleased to announce a $1.06m federal
grant for a new administration building.
I was delighted to host a fire risk and traffic community meeting in Anglesea with
Emergency Management Commissioner, Craig Lapsley, as part of my campaign to
upgrade the Anglesea roundabout. It was a tremendous turnout with almost 200
people which amplifies just how important these issues are in our community.
The Corangamite Medal is a new annual award I have initiated which recognises outstanding
citizenship in students. The medal is available to all Corangamite schools. The 2014 winners are:

This is another great example of ways
in which the Federal Government is
investing in the Colac community.
Principal Jack Lenaghan showed me the
plans which are very exciting.
ABS Centre to bring
250 jobs to Geelong
In the first visit to Colac by a Prime
Minister for some 10 years, Tony Abbott
toured Bulla Dairy Foods to discuss the
very significant opportunities offered
by Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with
China, Japan and South Korea.
It was exciting to help deliver a new
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
Centre of Excellence which will bring
with it 250 jobs and provide a major
boost to the Geelong CBD.
With some 600 employees, Bulla is such
an important business in Colac. Our
FTAs will deliver a real boost to Bulla's
export potential, and to jobs growth.
The ABS recently signed a Heads of
Agreement with Deakin University to
establish the Centre at the Geelong
Waterfront Campus from early 2016.
With Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Bulla Dairy
Foods' Michelle Rowney.
Victorian Emergency Services
Minister, Jane Garrett, needs
to ensure this funding is
delivered.
I have been lobbying for this relocation
which reflects our government's focus
on creating more jobs for Geelong.
GRIIF delivers
hundreds of jobs
Each and every day, I am fighting for jobs
and opportunity. With our region under
some pressure, our government recognises
how important it is to support the private
sector deliver the jobs of the future.
Funded by the Federal and Victorian
Governments, Ford and Alcoa, the Geelong
Region Innovation and Investment Fund
(GRIIF) has already created some 750 longterm, sustainable jobs. The success of the
GRIIF also reflects the investment confidence
that so many businesses share in our region.
Surf Coast Shire is seeking
funding for an emergency
traffic management plan.
Almost 200 people attended our community
meeting in Anglesea.
With Defence Minister Kevin Andrews and Carbon
Revolution's Jake Dingle and James Douglas.
Free trade agreements great news for jobs
As the meeting was told,
VicRoads modelling
shows that extra Anglesea
roundabout lanes could
dramatically reduce traffic
queues during the summer
peak.
These funds will ensure students at
Sacred Heart have the infrastructure
necessary to help them get the most out
of their time at school.
I also had the honour of presenting new
Australian and Aboriginal flags during my
visit to the school.
At Puckapunyal in an ASLAV with Lance Corporal Johnathon Brew .
The Army’s $10 billion LAND 400
project to deliver a fleet of armoured
fighting vehicles presents local
industry with enormous opportunities.
The China-Australia FTA will see the
elimination of tariffs on ice-cream (19%),
yoghurt (10%) and cottage cheese (12%).
With Cr Michael Delahunty, Prof. Ian Harper,
Bill Brown and Phil Edge.
Corangamite Medal
Minister's visit fires up Geelong's LAND 400 bid
Our volunteer life savers play such an important role
in the community, keeping our beaches safe.
· reflect the government’s commitment to combat
drowning fatalities on our beaches.
With Australian Lamb Company workers celebrating
a $3.25m grant to help the business expand.
We have recently announced $10.3 million in
GRIIF grants for Cotton On, Quickstep, Farm
Foods, Organic Dairy Farmers of Australia,
Australian Lamb Company and Ridley
Agriproducts.
