IT’S EASY! At various intervals, publishers simply identify excess stock, provide offer lists to Books for Asia and send selected books direct to our offices in Asia or to the Books for Asia warehouse in California. It’s really that simple! HOW BOOKS FOR ASIA WORKS Books for Asia is one of the best-managed book donation programs available to publishers. It is managed by The Asia Foundation, with staff based in-country, not by third parties. We have over 50 years of experience operating in Asia. Books for Asia selects recipient education institutions that cannot afford to purchase foreign-published books and would not otherwise have access to English-language materials. We provide training to librarians to efficiently manage collections. Distributing books published in English is our specialty! In every country where Books for Asia is active, there is a thirst for English-language skills that spans every class and sector of society. Citizens want access to professional texts and contemporary publications in English, the international language of commerce, science and technology, and diplomacy. Books for Asia’s staff in-country adhere to the highest standards of inventory and distribution control. ey follow-up regularly to ensure that donated materials are relevant to recipient institutions, are widely available to students, and do not appear in local markets for sale. Books for Asia’s staff inform recipient institutions about intellectual property rights and forbid the duplication of donated materials. Because our staff is directly involved with distribution and monitoring, and publisherdonated books are highly valued, recipient institutions are eager to follow the rules of the program. Books for Asia uses an inventory database system that tracks new books by title and quantity from the time they arrive in our secure warehouse in the United States, are transferred via sealed container shipment to offices in Asia, and are offloaded, recounted, and allocated to recipient institutions. e Asia Foundation stamps all books, “Gift of The Asia Foundation: Not for Resale” and recipient libraries officially acknowledge receipt of each volume. e Asia Foundation is genuinely interested in working with publishers to ensure that the donation program is mutually beneficial. We always take publishers’ concerns and needs seriously.
