What: The annual signature “Cool Girls Become Cool Women” Hot Pink Party raises funds for the expansion of Cool
Girls’ unique programs for girls living in Atlanta’s low-income communities. The audience will be comprised of 400
of Atlanta’s elite professionals and other esteemed supporters of Cool Girls, who will enjoy an evening of heavy hors
d’oeuvres, signature cocktails, and fabulous silent auction items.
Why: There are more girls living in poverty in Atlanta than any other city in the United States. We provide direct
service tools that help economically disadvantaged girls make positive choices so they can achieve academic success
and lead healthy lives. Through our holistic programs, our girls break the cycles of poverty and teen pregnancy to
overcome the barriers of racism and sexism.
COOL WOMAN OF THE YEAR: Brooke Baldwin
Presented to Brooke Baldwin, award-winning news anchor for CNN. Brooke has been in the
nerve center -- from the field and behind the anchor desk -- during countless breaking news
events. Brooke has anchored extensive coverage of the Boston marathon bombings, and
covered the release of the three women held in captivity for a decade, in Cleveland. Her flare
for capturing the human spirit in the stories she covers is why she is a leader among
journalists worldwide. Brooke is passionate about women and girls pursuing their dreams
and career aspirations.
PINK EMPOWERMENT AWARD HONOREES: Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks
This award will be presented to Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks, Co-Founders of Black Girls
Run. Their passion for health and fitness led to the co-creation of Black Girls RUN!, a
grassroots organization that encourages and inspires African-American women to live
a healthy lifestyle. Black Girls Run is an Atlanta-based national running group created
to combat obesity among African-American women. What began with a blog has
grown into a network of more than seventy groups and hundreds of thousands of
members across the nation.
