April 3, 2015 Aloha Outrigger® ‘ohana, I am pleased to announce the following promotions in the Outrigger Enterprises Group human resources department, effective March 1, 2015. Congratulations to: Pila Hanson -‐ director, organizational development; Kaipo Ho -‐ director, cultural experiences; and Cynthia Kagami -‐ analytics and program manager. Pila, Kaipo and Cynthia report to me. As director, organizational development, Pila is responsible for enhancing organizational effectiveness and the development of our Hosts, globally. Since 2007, Pila has been the manager for organizational development and internal communications. Prior, she worked in the real estate and development department as community liaison for the Waikiki Beach Walk® (WBW) project. Before WBW, she was HR and Ho‘okipa consultant, handling human resources, employee relations and training for OHANA Hotels and the condominium division. Pila joined HR in 1997 as a Ho‘okipa consultant in the Ho‘okele department, responsible for implementing Ke ‘Ano Wa‘a throughout Hawai‘i. Pila holds a bachelor’s in world religion and a master’s in Pacific/Asian religions from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Born on O‘ahu and raised on Kaua‘i, she and husband Eric, have two sons, ‘Oli (15) and Parker (7). Pila collects books on royal historical fiction and anything to do with squirrels. A little-‐known fact is she is a published author. Her master’s thesis on the Hawaiian art of Lua fighting (an ancient Hawaiian martial art) was used as the basis for a book published by the Bishop Museum Press in 2006. As director, cultural experiences, Kaipo champions The Outrigger Way and Outrigger’s mission and values globally; consults with and supports Outrigger’s regional and global management teams on their Outrigger Way initiatives and cultural values reinforcements; and teams up with Pila to, design, deliver and reinforce competency-‐ based training and leadership development processes, hospitality skills training and Outrigger Resorts brand training for global implementation. Kaipo joined Outrigger in 1993 as bell captain at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort. A year later, he joined the Ke ‘Ano Wa‘a implementation team and has been at the forefront of taking Ke ‘Ano Wa‘a and The Outrigger Way global, most recently as cultural experiences manager. ‘OhanaGram Page 2 Prior to Outrigger, Kaipo was hotel manager at the Stouffer Po‘ipu Beach Resort and guest services manager at the Stouffer Waiohai Beach Resort, both on Kaua‘i. Kaipo has an associate degree from Kapi‘olani Community College; is a Hawaiian kahu, or practitioner, of la‘au kahea, healing through prayer and chant; is trained in the traditional lomilomi healing style of Papa Kalua Kaiahua of Maui; and is Reiki III Master certified. A member of the Association for Training and Development (ATD), National and Hawai‘i Chapters, Kaipo is also a marriage celebrant for the State of Hawai‘i. Kaipo enjoys spending quiet weekends watching videos with his wife Anne Marie and building Lego projects with grandkids Wynter (12) and grandson Kamalani (6). A lover of Hawaiian music, he owns six different ‘ukulele. An Apple device fanatic, Kaipo is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the AppleWatch! As analytics and program manager, Cynthia supports President and CEO David Carey in administering the board of directors, shareholder and executive meetings. For the human resources department, she manages the Management Incentive Program (MIP), globally; supports various HR functions, including the administration of Retirement Committee meetings; creates analyses and metrics; provides HR-‐related data and forecasts to Finance to support the creation and monitoring of annual operating budgets; and supports other designated HR programs. Cynthia began her Outrigger career in 1988 in reservations. She says she was fortunate to move to finance in 1991 when reservations relocated to Denver and in 2010, she transitioned to the human resources department. Cynthia has a bachelor’s in business from the University of Hawai‘i (UH) at Mānoa majoring in travel industry management. She and her husband Mark are semi-‐empty nesters. Their son Joshua is working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Jose and their daughter Rebecca is attending UH working on her second degree in biology. Cynthia’s favorite weekend activity is to lose herself in a good horror book. Promotions in the department also include Lauren Chow to benefits supervisor and DJ Nash to senior HR specialist. Lauren and DJ report to Janice Yee, corporate director, HR services. Congratulations to these HR hosts for their accomplishments. The entire HR team looks forward to a productive and exciting 2015 at Outrigger!
