Suffolk Community Center
2 May/June 2015
2015-2016 Budget Vote & Trustee Election May 19, 2015
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
In this fourth year of the tax cap, property taxes may be increased by 1.62%. Sayville Library’s Proposed Operating Budget
is below the allowable amount. For the 2015-2016 fiscal year, there will be an estimated annual change of $7.78, or
$0.65 a month, for a home assessed at $40,000, based on current tax rates.
Your library card is still the smartest and most cost effective card in your wallet. Using any of the following services will
provide a substantial rate of return for your tax dollars.
There are many reasons to come into the library, including:
• new books, music and movies
• wonderful concerts and family programs
• hands-on computer workshops in the computer lab or one-on-one training sessions with a staff member
• get answers to your technology questions at a Tech Forum
• use the large or small scanner for documents or photo scanning
If you cannot visit the library, there are multiple online services available at no cost.
• learn a language using Pronunciator
• view a full issue of an e-magazine
• download and read an e-book
• learn or update a skill at Lynda.com
• stream a movie from Indieflix
The theme for the Summer Reading Club for all ages is “Every Hero Has a Story”. There will be a kick-off Family
Carnival on Friday, June 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Join us for some fun games and a petting zoo!
With the support of the Friends of Sayville Library, free passes to seven museums are available. Old Westbury Gardens
will be added this spring. Register at the Children’s Services Desk for this popular program.
The exterior courtyard renovation about which the public was informed last fall will be completed in mid-May. Outdoor
programs will be conducted there during the warm months.
You will be electing one Library Trustee this year for a five-year term. Linda Halliday is the incumbent. Remember
to vote on Tuesday, May 19, from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Suffolk Community Center. Please see important
dates on page 2.
A call to Library Director Alice Lepore
at 589-4440 will provide answers
to any of your questions about the
budget. The public is welcome to
attend Library Board meetings held the
2nd Monday of each month (except
August). We all thank you for your
continued support of Sayville Library.

THE LIBRARY WILL BE
CLOSING ON SUNDAYS
STARTING JUNE 21
Saturday, June 6, 2:00-3:30 pm
While cleaning out her Oakdale home after
it was flooded during Hurricane Sandy, Anita
Cafferty found letters that her father had sent
her mother from the front. Later, she traveled to
Nuremberg, Germany and Normandy,
France and walked the same beach
where her father was injured 69 years
earlier. She will share those letters
plus what she experienced in
her travels as we commemorate
the 71st anniversary of D-Day.
Please let us know in advance if you will need
an accommodation that will make these
events accessible to you.
