The Bedrocan sponsored symposium; “Medical Cannabis:
Clearing Away the Smoke” will address many of the current
issues facing physicians who may be apprehensive about
authorizing access to medical cannabis. With the establishment of the Marijuana for Medical
Purposes Regulations (MMPR) in Canada, in 2014, the responsibility of authorizing the use of
medical cannabis for patients falls entirely on physicians. Doctors are under no obligation, legal
or otherwise, to authorize medical cannabis for patients. Many are apprehensive as they feel
the current evidence base is insufficient, nor is cannabis approved as a drug. Other physicians
still have some issues with stigma, and are reluctant to authorize medical cannabis. Still others
may be open to its use as a medicine, but are insufficiently equipped to define its role in clinical
practice. This situation puts many doctors in a difficult position. Many physicians require
ongoing information and education on the utilization of medical cannabis for medical purposes;
Dr. Gillman will address these issues and more in her presentation. WEBINAR ON SAFER USE & BETTER HEALTH Canadian AIDS Society Developing Education Tools to Better Help Patients
