March 27, 2015 Dear BHS, Important Links Second semester is well underway with mid-term grades mailed home on April 16th. Bellingham High School offers a range of opportunities when students need additional help in their classes: Keep up to date on everything “Red Raider” with these helpful links. The first contact should be student to teacher. Many teachers have days they are available either before or after school to work with students. Students should contact their teacher to schedule a time to meet. Bellingham High Library is open until 3:45. Bellingham High School Bellingham School District Transportation Counseling Office Homework Help Career Center Scholarship Information Raideraide, a student support system built into the daily schedule, is also a time that students can work with teachers, tutors or mentors for additional help. Students can work in their Raideraide group or make arrangements with their Raideraide teacher to meet with others. Bellingham High School Tutoring Center runs Monday-Thursday 2:15-4:00 in the second floor computer lab. There are three staff and other college mentors who work with the students needing academic help. Spanish tutors are also available in the tutoring center. The staff provide snacks and bus passes for students who attend. BHS has a Student Success Coordinator, Peter Hutchinson, as well as an AmeriCorp volunteer, Ahhria Fosdyck, to support students who have individual concerns. Give them a call! Sports Schedules NWC Athletics Donnett Brown Specialized Instruction Department Chair Teachers The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) to the Superintendent includes two representatives from each school. The group meets monthly and anyone is welcome to attend. Meeting minutes are posted online. During the March meeting, the committee received updates about the work on school schedules and how we are continuing to pursue other options to achieve our goals: A later start time for high school supported by medical research, flexible high school scheduling to meet the state’s new 24credit graduation requirements, and more course/elective options for middle and high school students.
