benchmarking and competitiveness
applying global best practice to your new yard
Our competitiveness studies have established the correlation between the use of best practice, output
performance and profitability. To achieve the desired performance, a shipyard must be correctly configured
and employ appropriate processes and practices for its product mix and cost base. Our shipyard benchmarking
system and our cost structure and capacity models determine the overall characteristics of new and redeveloped
shipyards. We specify the processes and practices required to achieve market success through optimising the
facilities, the production technology and in particular the pre-production technologies employed.
applying global best practice to your existing yard
Our benchmarking system is used to compare the existing yard’s processes and practices to international
best practice. This identifies performance improvement priorities. The system has been applied in over 150
shipyards worldwide and is applicable to commercial and naval shipbuilding, ship repair, and naval support.
The system has also formed the foundation of major industry-wide performance improvement projects for
the European Commission, the US Department of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defence.
