The Biddeston Bulletin
The Newsletter of the Biddeston School The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows Sydney J Harris Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,
Well, what a lovely start to our day today - morning tea for a very deserving Mrs Nielsen, celebrating her very special
achievement of 25 years service to Biddeston State School. It was wonderful to catch up with parents and past Principal, Mr
Brian Ragh who was at Biddeston from 1993 to the end of 1999 and is currently Principal of Labrador State School. Thank you
parents for attending, for your assistance with setting up, baking, your best wishes and for keeping this celebration a secret!
Congratulations Mrs Nielsen for being such a valuable part of our school community.
Last week the students enjoyed the School Performance Tour, Dinosaur Science, with the performer building a model of a
dinosaur. It was a lot of fun!
Curriculum In the last week of this term, teaching staff will be meeting and moderating student work to ensure consistency of
standards. Curriculum tip: There are many everyday things you can do to encourage literacy learning. For example, playing
games that develop knowledge and enjoyment of words.
Inter-house Track and Field Day the students are gearing up for the inter-house Track and Field Day to be held on Friday
19th June. This day all students will participate in sprints, jumps (Juniors will participate in long jump only) and ball games. Older
students will also be involved in 800m, discus on Tuesday 17th June from 1pm. Parents are welcome to come and cheer on the
students on either or both days. Please return the permission form that was sent out last week, promptly.
Options With this being the last week of Options, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent and community
helpers, volunteering their time to run a session each week. Thank you once again to Mrs Donovan & Mrs Beazley for their
sewing and craft sessions and thank you to Mr Strasser for his woodworking lessons. Thank you to the parent and grandparent
helpers with Mrs Orton’s icing decorations. The students benefit from the many skills offered through Options in Terms 2 & 3.
Sporting Schools Gymnastics is running on Tuesday afternoons and Badminton on Wednesday afternoons until the end of term,
3pm – 4pm. It was good to see so many students enjoying the dance and gymnastics this week. Thank you to Mrs Sims for her
great coaching and giving the students the opportunity to attend these programs! This program will also be offered next term,
although the sports offered may change.
Chess Club This is still going strong, with it growing from three students to many more! The growth of the chess club has
caused its relocation to the music room on Monday afternoons after school. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Strasser for their
generosity in volunteering their time to organise and run this.
School Photos will be taken on Tuesday 16th June at school. Students are to wear full school uniform on the day. Forms and
information will be sent out ASAP.
Dental Van The Dental Van hopes to be here at the end of this term or the beginning of next term. Forms have been sent
home. All forms are to be returned please. If no dental service is required, please note this on the form. All forms are to be
returned to school by the 12th June.
Rossvale ball games and relays will be held on Thursday 25th June for the second half of the day. Students will travel by bus
to and from Bridgman Oval in Pittsworth to compete in ball games and relays with students from the other small schools in the
cluster. A permission note will be sent home with the next newsletter.
Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful Students are reminded to organise own clothing, such as hats and jumpers. We have a
large collection of clothing in the lost property, waiting to be claimed.
P&C Thank you to the P&C committee for helping organise the morning tea to acknowledge Mrs Nielsen’s 25 years’ service. The
next P&C meeting will be the first week after the holidays – Wednesday 15th July, 6pm in the library.
Professional Development I will be attending a small schools’ meeting in Pittsworth next Thursday 18th June.
Facilities We still have facilities work happening at school, with the laying of pavers outside the sports shed and installing bird
netting in the Covered Outdoor Learning Area.
Kind Regards,
Sharon

NEWS FROM GERMAN CLASS
The students are currently
enjoying speaking German in
small groups. I am filming the
groups to produce a
promotional video which will
be screened at the 10th annual
Toowoomba Languages and
Cultures Festival in Sunday 9th
August. It is a great
opportunity for the students to
work together and help each
other with pronouncing
German words. The video will highlight the students from
Goombungee, Quinalow, Jondaryan, Biddeston and
Wellcamp State Schools. We all tend to do our best when a
camera is pointing at us and the students are producing
great work.
