Comment
One down, and almost certainly one more to go in the
next couple of months. The chances of further rate
changes in the second half of the year will come down to
the outlook for the domestic unemployment rate and
global financial developments.
The level of ninety-day bill yields is pricing an almost
certain rate cut in the next couple of months.
Three-year swap rate is essentially pricing one more 25bp
rate cut this year, with a high chance of a second. No rate
hike is forecast over the next three years.
Longer-end rates have been impacted by both the pricing
of domestic rate cuts and global concerns about low
inflation. The first test of these low levels will be provided
by any imminent rate hike by the Federal Reserve.
The $A decline reflects lower commodity prices and
downgrades to Australian economic growth prospects.
We have brought forward our longer-term forecast of
0.73c to end-2015. The question for next year is whether
there might be a move under 70c.

Richard Fisher Quotes
There is many a joke about economists (supposed) lack of personality. And some of it is even true! But the ex-US central
banker, Richard Fisher, was a little different. Below is some of his more memorable quotes.
Ahead of a speech at Harvard in 2009, he described asking his wife if she had ever imagined in her “wildest dreams” that he would be
speaking there. He said she replied, “I hate to let you down, Richard, but after 35 years of marriage, you rarely appear in my wildest
dreams.”
Talking about the US economic outlook at end-2013, “I used to say that the United States was the best-looking horse in the global glue
factory. Now, I firmly believe we are the most fit stallion or filly on the global racetrack.”
"Monetary policy acts with a lag. I liken it to a good single malt whiskey or perhaps truly great tequila: It takes time before you feel its full
effect.”
